He has a 16-point lead in the championship. as is the case again this season. twice nabbing holeshots. veteran Honda racer KEVIN WINDHAM made his return to the factory Honda squad aboard an American Honda Racing CRF450R. Windham has been a strong contender up front and after finishing just shy of the podium in fourth place three times this season is sixth TARAH GIEGER AND ASHLEY FIOLEK overall in the points. The 450-class rookie has been a regular in the top 10. and after landing a string of top-10 finishes including finishing runner-up in two motos. Another Honda racer having a solid season is Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/ Honda’s CHRISTIAN CRAIG. and currently sits eighth in the points. GEICO Honda’s JUSTIN BARCIA continues to lay it all on the line each week. At the halfway point in the series Team TwoTwo Motorsports’ CHAD REED leads the 450 Championship. Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda’s COLE SEELY rounds out ninth spot in the points. Reed took backto-back victories at Hangtown and Freestone. The Women’s motocross championship class continues to showcase tight battles each week. Barcia’s teammate ELI TOMAC has been a strong contender up front all season and after six rounds is fourth in the championship. his 2011 campaign suffered a major setback when he crashed at round four. He underwent surgery to repair his injury and is expected to make a full return to racing later in the season. finished fifth again in France and Assen. His win in race one followed by third place in race two were enough to put him on top for the round and record the team’s first win of the season. Rea was holding down sixth in the championship after completing five rounds.HRCA News MotoGP and WSB Updates ANDREA DOVIZIOSO DANI PEDROSA CASEY STONER The 2011 MotoGP season is well underway and Repsol Honda racers CASEY STONER. Dovizioso has been a contender up front at each round. Simoncelli opened the season with a fifth. Stoner rebounded to finish third in Portugal and then take victory at the following two events in France and Spain. DANI PEDROSA and ANDREA DOVIZIOSO have done a valiant job of putting Honda’s RC212V up front each It didn’t take long for team newcomer Casey Stoner to find his feet on his Repsol Honda RC212V. and then proved he was the real deal by grabbing his first MotoGP pole position in Spain. breaking his collarbone. The Repsol Honda team currently holds two of the top three positions in the championship: Stoner leads all riders and Dovizioso holds down third. Pedrosa’s first win of the season came in Portugal. Netherlands. winning the opening round of the season at the Grand Prix of Qatar. as well as at the British GP. finishing on the podium four times and just shy of the podium in fourth place on three occasions. Honda has finished on top at five of the eight completed rounds. JONATHAN REA raced his Castrol Honda CBR1000RR to the overall victory at the team’s home race in Assen. Flamboyant newcomer to the field. Italian MARCO SIMONCELLI. Stoner began riding motorcycles when he was four and by age six had won his first Australian title. Stoner was old enough to enter the 125 Grand Prix World Championship. Stoner’s many years as a dedicated kid racer gelled into one of the most dominating MotoGP seasons in history: he won 10 races and his first World Championship. the young phenom and his family relocated to the UK in August/September 2011 Honda Red Rider hrca. the vibration is a lot less in the Honda. Born in Stockport. After dominating youth motorcycling in Australia. he jumped into the 250 Grand Prix class. so this is a dream come true. Stoner qualified on pole in only his second-ever MotoGP race and finished on the podium in his third race. I feel I can adjust and adapt the Honda a lot easier whereas with the Italian bike I had to really find the perfect setup. At age 12. grabbing 10 podiums and winning five races en route to finishing runner-up in the championship. Queensland. What did you learn then that is still useful today? It’s something I’ve continued to be impressed with and the different variables we can do with the engine to suit my style. learning the tracks and acclimating to international travel. Pedrosa won the championship. and took all five titles. Can you explain what changes for the rider? CS: For one thing. Stoner came close to reclaiming the title. and battled with now Repsol teammate Dani Pedrosa for the 250 title. you seem to have adapted perfectly to the machine. where he competed for two seasons. The following year. In 2003. he had won 42 dirt track titles and more than 70 state titles in Australia. What makes you click with the RC212V? Casey Stoner: The power delivery is what I immediately noticed when I first jumped on the Honda. Stoner began his MotoGP career with Honda on Team LCR in 2006. he raced five different classes—each of which had seven rounds—for a total of 35 races in a single HRR: What does it mean for you being part of the Repsol Honda Team? CS: For me it’s a life-long dream to be on this team. By the time he was 14. HRR: What is your strongest point as a rider? CS: I think I’m well balanced. He finished his rookie season an impressive eighth in the championship. Like so many great American road racing champions. HRR: You have switched from an Italian to a Japanese bike this season. and now the diminutive Australian is out to repeat his 2007 title-winning success back on a Honda. HRR: You started your motorsport career in dirt track like a lot of American road racing champions. it’s been my ambition to race for Repsol Honda. More importantly. I can get good traction and corner speed when I need to. With dirt track. Also. Honda Red Rider: Since your debut on the RC212V at Valencia. where the legal age for road racing is 14 compared to Australia’s 16. At his 2006 debut. Since watching Mick Doohan. Honda Red Rider had the chance to get Stoner’s thoughts on joining Repsol Honda for the 2011 MotoGP season and about riding Honda’s 21 .
