Conservation as it Relates to the Urban Interface Project

Goals of Project for students:


1. Demonstrate an understanding of the concept of Wildlife and Land
Management as it relates to the urban interface.
2. Understand the status of endangered species which includes animals,
birds, plants, fish and aquatic organisms.
3. Gain a greater understanding of environmental issues and programs in
the State of California and Mexico.
4. Realize the political impact of environmental issues on communities
and humans by creating potential solutions for both endangered
species and economic growth.

Objectives:
1. Investigate and research an endangered species in our region. Species
can include plants, animals, birds, fish or aquatic organisms. Your
project topic will need to be approved by your instructor.
2. Create a visual display to tell the story of your chosen species
including (1) the situation (2) what is being done (3) any economic
impact on the community (4) potential solutions to the problem and (5)
what is your stance on the situation.
3. Visit Conservation area if accessible.
4. Meet with Wildlife officers to find out what is being done.
5. Create audiovisual information and images as resources.

Procedure:

1. Research an issue relating to an endangered species.


2. Find out if an environmental organization is involved in the process of
keeping the species safe.
3. If accessible, visit Conservation or Wildlife preserve and observe how
it relates to the urban interface.
4. Observe current land and wildlife management practices and interview
officers.
5. Write about the program including the situation as you see it, what is
being done, any economic impact on the community, potential
solutions and your stance on the situation. Include name of
environmental organization and any information about that group.
6. Create a visual display telling the story of your endangered species and
the situation of the species using a poster or power point presentation.
7. Perform an oral presentation.
