WHAT I MEAN IS
Design had passed through many phases of change during our modern history. At Each Period, There were some elements common in each design which identied this period or this type of design. Sometimes it is a kind of school that some people had created or follow with their designs.

SO WHY THIS MAY BE IMPORTANT ?

It helps you to identify your design, so you will be able to make a good search for things that may help you. It helps you when you are selecting a theme for your whole work. It helps you to deliver a certain massages with your designs.

TYPOGRAPHY
Is the art that mainly depends on the words & letters arranging. It goes back to the ancient times as it was used to make seals & currency. Islamic civilization enriched this kind of art, as muslims use it to decorate everything in there life. Typography is used to set a theme & mood in designs as bold, large text convey a message for the reader & get his attention while modern fonts for clean & neutral look. Also typography reects brands.

RETRO
Is the art famous for the 1970s & 1980s period. It is also famous for pale colors. Retro is used to represent things old fashioned or things no longer happened. Sometimes it is used as an ironic from the past & to revive things from the past.

GRAFFITI
Is considered the oldest kind of design ever known. Ancients used it to write their daily life in old ages (like primitive human on caves walls & the ancient Egyptian on their temples). Grafti is the name for images or letters scratched,painted or marked in any way on property(like walls, buildings, etc). It is most of the times detailed & represent the pop culture. Sometimes it could deliver a political or social message or could be a gang signal.

VINTAGE
Is the art famous for the period before retro (almost from 1800s to 1950s). It is famous for whites & browns. Vintage represents past & nobility. It is most used in furniture & fashion designs.

MINIMALISM
Is a kind of art developed in Japan. Depends on simple images & drawings with large areas of mono colors. Minimalism is used to to deliver a clear, strong message. It usually depends on simple & shiny colors (mono colors)(like ags).

MAXIMALISM
The opposite of minimalism. Its designs consists of many objects & contains many colors & has a lot of details. Most of time you can feel a cemetery on the design. Maximalism is used to explain something by encompassing all factors under a multipurpose umbrella.

ABSTRACT
Depends mainly on carves & shapes (silhouette shapes). Also it famous for shiny colors & various of colors. Abstract could be used to represent a lot meanings according to its objects & colors. Flourish designs are kind of abstract designs.

MANIPULATION
Is to create something not real with real things or to edit in real photos to make un real one. Manipulation is used when it is very hard to make the condition of the real photo or design. Photo editing is a kind of photo manipulation. Manipulation is used to deliver funny, strong or unbelievable message.

MODERN ART
Is the development to art that happens according to the man kind knowledge evolution. Modern art is used to deliver that something is new, modern & up to date. It depends on things that are related to the latest technology & life style nowadays. Digital art is a kind of modern art.

ILLUSTRATIONS
Is to make a free hand drawing then complete it digitally later keeping its main features. Mainly illustrator is used in this kind of designs. Illustrations are used to deliver funny, cartoonish, obvious messages. It usually uses simple, shiny colors.

FINALLY SOME POINTS TO BE MENTIONED

Graphic Designing & Arts are two side of a coin. As graphic designing is considered the evolution of the hand arts.

In many times designer use a combination of these types in his design. So its hard then to determine its type. Mixing many types could be good or bad according to the purpose of design.

Smart design usually starts with a deep search. Good Observer = Good Designer .
