November 27th, 2010

Prelude Opening of the Word Call to Worship I saw the holy city, even the New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with him, and be their God. Opening Hymn My Faith Looks Up to Thee Readings from the Word Psalm 137 Matthew 22:41-46 Readings from the Heavenly Doctrines The Last Judgment 54

What is meant by Babylon and what it is like. Babylon means all who wish to have power over others by means of religious belief. This is gaining control over people's souls, and so over their spiritual life itself, using as means the Divine elements in their religion. All those who aim at power using religion as a means are called collectively Babylon. The reason why the name of Babylon is applied to them is that in ancient times such control began, but was destroyed as soon as it started. Its beginning is described by the city and tower which had its top in heaven; its destruction by the confusion of speech; hence its name was Babel.
Psalms and Prophets

Psalm 137 1-6 Lamentation by the nations who are in falsities from ignorance, because they do not have the Word. 5-6 A Church will be formed of these by the Lord, which He will love. 7-9 Those who have devastated the Church will perish.

Congregational and Pastoral Prayer The Lords Prayer Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial; and deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen Hymn: Out of the Depths I Cry to You Homily The Cursing Psalms Major portions of today's address are from: C.S. Lewis, REFLECTIONS ON THE PSALMS) Musical Interlude Offering Doxology To Jesus Christ be glory given By all on Earth and all in Heaven Let his dominion wide extend, His glorious kingdom have no end Affirmation of Faith We worship the One God, the Lord the Savior Jesus Christ; in whom is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; whose humanity is divine. He came into the world and took our nature upon him. He endured temptation, even to the Passion of the Cross. He overcame the hells, and so delivered all. Without this, no mortal could have been saved; and they are saved who believe in Him, and keep the commandments of His Word. This is His commandment; that we love one another as He has loved us.
