The EV crusher requires no primary crushing. The EV crusher reduces limestone boulders from quarry size to mill feed size in only one stage. The EV crusher requires little floor space and less building height, it simplifies plant layout and reduces civil cost. Easy access to the interior is ensured by hydraulic opening of the top part of the crusher. The hammers remain serviceable down to 75% of their initial weight. Maintenance of the drive arrangement is facilitated by using gear unit instead of V-belt. The outlet grate excellently controls the top size of the crusher product and ensures a consistent flow to the conveyor. Hydraulically adjustable outlet grate enables compensation for hammer wear.

Application

The crushing process plays an important role in the overall performance of most plants, so the primary crusher must be carefully chosen based on operational experience at similar plants. In todays cement industry limestone is usually mined by blasting. This results in may oversized boulders which often contain a lot of clay and sand. The crusher therefore has to handle fairly large blocks in the feed as well as some sticky materials. The proven FLS EV Hammer impact Crusher is a reliable and economical system for processing abrasive and moderately sticky raw materials which would normally call for compli-

cated multistage crushing. IN a traditional hammer mill with top inlet, large blocks in the feed may impede the action of the hammers and block the crusher. The EV crusher eliminates this risk and accepts coarse feed blocks because the horizontal feed system incorporates one or two shock absorbing inlet rollers. The inlet rollers feed the crusher almost horizontally, ensuring precise feed control. Whether one or two inlet rollers are used depends on the feed method. Normally the crusher is fed by an FLS FEV apron feeder. In this case the feed rate is uniform and controlled and the crusher is equipped with one inlet roller only.

Materials Handling

If, for example, a vibration feeder with grizzly sections for by-passing undersize material is used, the rather uneven feed rate from the vibration feeder may be smoothed by providing the crusher with two inlet rollers. The EV crusher reduces limestone boulders from quarry size (up to 2.5m and 5 tonnes) to mill feed size (25mm) in only one stage.This means a reduction ratio of 1:100. Throughput capacities range up to 2500 tonnes per hour with outlet grate and 3000 tonnes per hour without outlet grate. Primary crushing is effected by impacting while secondary crushing takes place by shearing and compression between the hammers and the breaker plate and finally between the hammers and the outlet grate. This ensures that even the small particles absorb energy and that no oversize particles leave the crusher. The adjustable outlet grate gives the EV crusher unique control of the top size of the product and ensures a consistent flow to the conveyor. The excellent control of the product top size is also the key to protecting subsequent machinery such as reclaimers, sluices and mills against operational disturbance and damage. The hold-up mechanism of the outlet grate generates a final product with a higher proportion of fines. This moves more of the comminution work from the less energy-efficient raw mill to the more energyefficient crusher. All the exposed surfaces in the

crusher and the adjustable breaker plate are lined with bolted-on wear-resistant plates. Inlet rollers consist of a shaft with a concentric roller casing. Rubber pads between shaft and roller casing make the roller shock absorbent. The inlet rollers are driven by a separate motor. The hammer rotor assembly consists of a heavy, forged shaft with a square cross-section fitted with rotor discs. The special sandwich assembly of the discs is a robust construction which prevents distortion and crack formation. The hammer rows are displaced in relation to each other, thereby covering the whole area of the outlet grate, which increases overall efficiency of the crusher. Example: To attain a product size distribution with a sieve residue of approximately 5% in a 100mm control sieve an outlet grate with 125 mm slots is needed.

Example: An outlet grate with 125 mm slots and a desired capacity of 1750 t/h will result in an EV 250x250 with an approximately 1600 kW motor.

The spacing between the hammers and the breaker plate and the spacing between the hammers and the outlet grate can be adjusted to compensate for hammer wear. This allows a reduction of hammer weight down to 75 percent of its original level while maintaining

the required product size curve. The excellent control of the product is obtained by the outlet grate assembly, which is equipped with sturdy, replaceable grate bars carried in heavy cheeks. The position of the outlet grate assembly is hydraulically adjustable from outside the crusher casing. The top part of the crusher can be opened by hydraulic cylinders to facilitate access to the crusher interior. Hydraulically operated tools are provided to dismantle and fit the heavy hammer bolts. The hydraulic cylinders and the hydraulic tools are served by a mobile hydraulic power unit which is stored in a separate room when not in use. A lifting yoke eases handling of the hammer rows when changing hammers and holds them in position when dismantling and fitting hammer bolts.
