Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

The Most Important Person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedrala dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby's body...The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God's creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation... What on God's good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother? The Story of Johns Gospel

You are invited to attend a presentation of a DVD on the Book of John, on three consecutive Wednesday evenings, in the Parish Life Center at 7:30 p.m. Mark your calendars for May 11, 18 and 25 and plan to attend during this Easter Season. This movie and presentation is hosted by our Wednesday evening Bible study faith community. Let us enter in the personal story which portrays the Gospel of John we hear proclaimed at Mass.

Prayer Requests: Please continue to keep Marge Urbonas and her family in your prayers. Please pray for Peace in our world. Wishing you a warm and happy month of May! We hope you find the following information interesting: The dedication of the month of May to our Blessed Mother began in Italy in 1784 It spread widely during the 19th century in the United States as members of the faithful were encouraged to bring the celebration into their homes. The recitation of the Rosary, the crowing of the Blessed Virgin Mary and decorated May altars have been part of the month-long celebration ever since. Make the month a little more special this year by setting up a May Altar in your home as a place to spend time in prayer.

Novena to the Holy Spirit

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body to You, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice, and the might of Your love. You are the Strength and Light of my soul. In You I live and move and am. I desire never to grieve You by unfaithfulness to grace and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against You. Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light, and listen to Your voice, and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to You and give myself to You and ask You, by Your compassion to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds, and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore You, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You. Give me grace, O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and the Son to say to You always and everywhere, "Speak Lord for Your servant heareth." Amen. (To be recited daily during the Novena) PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me: The Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, The Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth, The Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, The Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, The Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, The Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, The Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and animate me in all things with Your Spirit. Amen. (To be recited daily during the Novena) Thou in toil art comfort sweet, Pleasant coolness in the heat, solace in the midst of woe. The Gift of Understanding- Understanding, as a gift of the Holy Spirit, helps us to grasp the meaning of the truths of our holy religion BY faith we know them, but by Understanding we learn to appreciate and relish them. It enables us to penetrate the inner meaning of revealed truths and through them to be quickened to newness of life. Our faith ceases to be sterile and inactive, but inspires a mode of life that bears eloquent testimony to the faith that is in us; we begin to "walk worthy of God in all things pleasing, and increasing in the knowledge of God." Prayer- Come, O Spirit of Understanding, and enlighten our minds, that we may know and believe all the mysteries of salvation; and may merit at last to see the eternal light in Thy Light; and in the light of glory to have a clear vision of Thee and the Father and the Son. Amen. Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE. Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

Mark Nimo comes from Ghana in West Africa. Mark had a radical conversion experience while going through a crisis at the age of twenty. This led him to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. After earning a Bachelors degree in economics and a Diploma in education, he was appointed a teaching associate at the University of Cape Coast. Sensing a call to the missions, Mark quit his job and received training with the International Catholic Program of Evangelization (ICPE) in Malta. He also served as a lay missionary in Uganda, East Africa for two years at the Emmaus Center. For a period of ten years, he also served as the representative of all English and Portuguese speaking countries of Africa on the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (ICCRS) in the Vatican. In 2006, Mark earned a Masters degree in Pastoral Theology from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. Currently, he is a candidate in the Ecumenical Doctor of Ministry Program at CTU and works with the Archdiocese of Chicago as Director of Religious Education in a parish. The toleration and promotion of abortion, socially and legally, has clouded individual consciences and made it difficult for many to distinguish between good and evil, even when what is at stake is the fundamental right to life. If we reject the value and dignity of human life, our culture becomes more and more based on a lie and its structures cannot long end u r e . ( Bi s h o p M i c h a e l W . W a r f e l ) .

Reflections on Scripture:
You will show me the path to life. This line from todays responsorial psalm sums up the message of this liturgy and of the Easter season. Christ Jesus, risen from the dead, fills his people with the same life, and this becomes a path, a way of life. Hence, Peter can say in the second reading, You were ransomed from your futile conduct. The journey of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, of course, symbolizes this path of life and the new way in which we are called to walk. Along this way, and amidst the challenges of life, we can be tempted, as they were, to look downcast and simply discuss how we were hoping that things would be better. By giving death more credit than it deserves, we can fail to recognize that Jesus is walking with us through the most difficult hours. This is especially true in a culture of death, when those most difficult hours can tempt people to resort to abortion or euthanasia. Christ, risen from the dead, walks with us and dines with us. He rescues us from the futile conduct of turning to death as a solution to our problems, because now, the kingdom of death has been conquered. Embracing life-giving repentance, we are now filled with the Holy Spirit, whom the risen Christ sends upon us, as the first reading declares. That Spirit not only purifies us, but enables us to announce the Gospel of Life and to become advocates for all our brothers and sisters, just as the Holy Spirit is an advocate for us.
