Com The View Of Ahlus Sunnah & The Murji’ah Regarding The Major Kufr Of Thakdhib (Falsification) & Juhood (Denial) By Abdul Kareem Ibn Ozzie
This article has been written in order to refute the Murji’ah creed and because Ahlus Sunnah of today (the salafis) are accused by some groups of Muslims as being the Neo Murjiah (the Murji’ah of this era). Therefore this article should inshallah help to provide evidence that Ahlus Sunnah of today are free from the Murji’ah creed and opposed to it inshallah. The Murji’ah (are a deviated sect that appeared during the era of the taabieen (this was mentioned by Shaykh Uthaymeen in his introduction to his explanation of Aqeedah al Wasitiyyah), they latter split into many sub sects. The Murji’ah deviated in their understanding of iman (faith). The Murji’ah (or those that follow their aqeedah in this issue) claim major kufr can only occur if a Muslim • believes in kufr, • desires kufr, • desires to leave Islam, • desires to commit kufr through his action, • believes in a statement of kufr he uttered • istihlaal of action or statement and istihlaal of belief in the heart (i.e. to declare an action or a statement to be lawful (halaal) as a matter of belief in the heart) though it is haraam in the shariah • thakdhib (Falsification) disbelieving with the tongue and heart together and • juhood (Denial) which is disbelieving by the tongue but not with the heart (i.e. a person knows Islam is the truth so he therefore he believes in Islam as the true and only religion to follow in his heart however whenever he moves his tongue (speaks) about Islam he claims it is a false man made religion which should not be followed. So he believes in his heart but
disbelieves by his tongue (i.e. his speech)) (Often many scholars, students of knowledge and daaeeis (not all) refer to juhood and thakdhib as juhood only, but by this they mean disbelieving with the tongue and heart together and not disbelieving by the tongue but not with the heart as I have stated above) In this article the Murjiah belief that major kufr can occur through a Muslim committing, • thakdhib (Falsification) disbelieving with the tongue and heart together and • juhood (Denial) which is disbelieving by the tongue but not with the heart, will be looked in to. This Murji’ah belief is incorrect and is not held by Ahlus Sunnah of the past or present, the reason this belief is incorrect is because though major kufr can sometimes occur through thakdhib (Falsification) or juhood (Denial/Rejection), major kufr can also occur with out thakdhib (Falsification) or juhood (Denial/Rejection). Shaykh Bin Baz in his commentary of Aqeedah at-Tahaawi said, “a person can exit from Islaam without showing Juhood (here the word juhood refers to thakdhib as well) for many reasons…Amongst them: when he reviles Islaam or the Prophet, or mocking Allaah, His Messenger or His Book or anything from His Legislation…And also amongst such (actions) are worshipping idols, calling upon the dead, seeking help from them, seeking assistance from them and other such things. Therefore, whoever directs any of these (acts of worship) to other than Allaah, such as to idols, the angels, the jinn, those in the graves and others from the creation then such a one has committed (major) Shirk with Allaah...All of these matters cause a person to exit from Islaam by unanimous agreement of the Muslims, and they are not from the matters of Juhood (here the word juhood refers to thakdhib as well).”
So from the above it is clear that Ahlus Sunnah believe that major kufr can occur with or without Thakdhib (Falsification) or Juhood (Denial) unlike the Murji’ah who believe that kufr can only occur with Thakdhib (Falsification) or Juhood (Denial).
