Last year for the 78th Annual Historic Garden Week, 90,000 Guidebooks were printed and distributed in places as remote as Canada and Bermuda. Additionally, the Garden Club of Virginia’s Historic Garden Week website is viewed by over 100,000 unique visitors annually. A book-style electronic version of the publication is available online in the months preceding the tour! Not only is this a huge amount of coverage for our advertisers, but our demographic is very specific and perfect for upscale businesses and services. Known as “America’s Largest Open House,” Historic Garden Week in Virginia is the oldest and largest statewide event of its kind in the nation. Each April, member clubs of the Garden Club of Virginia open more than 180 of the state’s finest private homes and gardens for public touring. Over 30,000 visitors from throughout the United States and abroad attend approximately three dozen tours, from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. Established in 1929, Historic Garden Week proceeds support the mission of the Garden Club of Virginia, which includes the restoration and preservation of the grounds of historic properties within the Commonwealth that are regularly open to the public. In addition to the Guidebook, HGW is supported by a wide distribution of additional printed materials – 60,000 state brochures, 3,000 posters and thousands of local brochures. Press releases are sent out locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. No other Virginia event has the history, cache, targeted consumer, compelling mission or media support that accompanies Historic Garden Week.
Advertisers in the Historic Garden Week guidebook are selecting a highly focused and successful marketing vehicle reaching a key target audience. HGW visitors are upscale, with discretionary income, in the age demographic which makes 80 percent of all household purchases, with more buying power than the country of Japan. (Source: Virginia Tourism Corporation). Our guests are well-traveled and well-educated, mostly female and interested in gardening, interior design, architecture, renovation, travel and history. It is important to note, they are also loyal, and many are repeat visitors that come to Garden Week year after year.
Sponsorship Visibility and Advertising via our Website
Guidebook ad rates are an incredible deal – ranging in cost from a full color, full page ad in the front of the Guidebook at $1700 to our most economical black and white ad that is only $275 this year. Additionally, we are offering an incredible opportunity to extend your coverage by advertising on our website. For only $250 more, full-page and half-page advertisers are encouraged to place the same ad on the Historic Garden Club/Garden Club of Virginia website. Your digital ad will reside from January to May of 2012 and links to your company’s website! The site receives approximately 100,000 unique hits annually. Your ad will appear in approximately 90,000 copies of the Guidebook, distributed across the state and nation. The Guidebook provides details about homes and gardens open on more than 30 tours statewide, as well as information about historic and other regional attractions. Distribution takes place from February through April, meaning advertisers have a minimum of 3 months of coverage and sometimes a lot longer (we had someone call the Kent-Valentine House recently that has held onto their 1991 Guidebook – that’s 20 years of exposure!). Guidebooks clearly have a long shelf life. Here is what the manager of an historic inn had to say: “We always ask our guests where they learned about our Bed and Breakfast. Using this research, we know that our Garden Week guidebook ad generated more than $5,000 in revenue last year. This is exactly the discerning audience that we want to reach.”
