Thank you.

DEAR FAITHFUL OF THE DIOCESE OF PEMBROKE: I wish to report to you the details of the Diocesan
Lenten Missionary and Development Collection, a collection organized by the Diocese of Pembroke through the parishes for development projects and missionary groups identified by the Diocese. The collection for Lent 2011 totaled $146,108.88, and I wish to thank you for your generosity. The present form of the Diocesan Lenten Missionary and Development Collection was begun in 2010 in response to the questions raised concerning the distribution of funds of the Share Lent collection of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP). In response to these questions, CCODP was asked to cooperate with the Canadian Bishops in a broad study of the status and goals of CCODP in light of the Holy Fathers Encyclical Letter Caritas in veritate. The challenges facing the CCODP continue to be addressed through the Secretariat of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. However, recent developments in the Archdiocese of Ottawa during Lent have demonstrated that a great deal of work needs to be done to allow CCODP to be fully effective. For the future, the Diocese will continue to sponsor development and missionary efforts which were identified for you during the Lenten Season. As I outlined to you in a letter at the beginning of Lent 2011, this years collection, and those going forward, will be directed toward programs to assist Iraqi Christians who are suffering greatly at this time. The Diocese requested the assistance of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA). a Pontifical Agency, to identify these projects and distribute the funds through the local Catholic dioceses. petails of these programs were provided for parish bulletin inserts during Lent 2011. Other proceeds will be provided to programs traditionally related to the missionary work of the religious groups in our Diocese. I am happy to mention that a portion of the collection will be given to the Chorillos Child Nutritional Project which occupies a central position in the ongoing partnership between the Diocese of Pembroke and the Archdiocese of Lima, Peru. A full listing of the programs supported can be found on the attached sheet (**see next weeks bulletin**) I wish to reiterate my esteem and appreciation for your generosity. If you have any question regarding these initiatives, please do not hesitate to contact this Office at your convenience. Michael Mulhall
