A Rewarding Experience
Camping in Mojave National Preserve is an enjoyable and rewarding pastime for visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Developed campgrounds are ideal for families and groups, while roadside camping areas and nearly 700,000 acres of wilderness offer more primitive camping opportunities.
Two developed family campgrounds are available year-round at Mid Hills and Hole-in-the-Wall (see reverse side of brochure for map, directions, and further descriptions). Facilities Pit toilets, trash and recycling receptacles, potable water. Fire rings and picnic tables at each site. No utility hookups. Dump station available at Holein-the-Wall Campground, only. Fees & Reservations $12 per site per night, $6 for America the Beautiful Senior/Access Pass holders. Reservations not accepted; campsites available on a first-come, firstserved basis. Pets Allowed, but must be leashed and never left unattended. Pet excrement must be collected and disposed of in garbage receptacles. Campfires Permitted only in provided fire rings. Do not leave fires smoldering or unattended. All firewood must be brought into the preserve; cutting or collecting any wood, including downed wood, is prohibited. Sanitation Store all food in a manner that will prevent access by wildlife. Garbage and foodscraps must be placed in provided trash receptacles. Campsite Limits Maximum of 8 people with 2 vehicles (including a camping unit—i.e. trailer, motor home, converted van, etc.) per site. Stays limited to maximum of 14 consecutive days per visit/stay and 30 total days per year. Quiet hours: 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. Generator use prohibted during quiet hours. Firearms Shooting or hunting is prohibited within 1/2 mile of campgrounds. All firearms must be unloaded, cased, and broken down. Telephones Public telephones are available at Hole-in-theWall Information Center and Hole-in-the-Wall Fire Center (located across Black Canyon Road). In case of emergency, dial 911. Other Camping Options
Roadside Camping Roadside vehicle camping is permitted in areas that have been traditionally used for this purpose: sites with existing rock or metal fire rings should be considered suitable for roadside camping. Do not camp along paved roads, in day-use areas, on private property, or within 1/4 mile of any water source or cultural site. Bury (or pack out) human waste in catholes 6–8 inches deep, at least 200 feet from water, camp, and trails. Pack out all toilet paper and hygiene products. Providence Mountains State Recreation Area CLOSED January—October 2011. Due to necessary repairs and renovations, no pedestrian or vehicle traffic is permitted. Backpacking & Horsepacking Campsites must be at least 1/2 mile from developed areas and roads and 1/4 mile from any water source. There is no permit or registration system, so be sure to notify others of your travel itinerary. Horses and/or other pack animals are permitted on all trails, backcountry roads, and open country (including wilderness). Free-trailing or looseherding is prohibited. All feed must be brought into the preserve; ranging/grazing is prohibited. Manure should be raked out and spread over a large area. Developed camping facilities are available at the Black Canyon Equestrian & Group Campground. Reservations are required; call 760 928-2572 or 760 252-6104.
