West Pasco Habitat for Humanity Proposal Additions: Time Frame Recent Developments: We hosted a Fundraiser with great

success August. 4th. Over 30 people from the community came out . We had a group of ladies representing Tampa Bay Time (www.tampabaytime.org) come out to speak about their volunteer coordinating website that allows members to transfer and trade volunteer hours throughout the Tampa bay area. Jun our musician played for about an hour during sunset till. We received gifts from local salon and held a Raffle giving away those gifts as well as a 50/50 drawing. All total we raised over $250 for Habitat for Humanity that we hope will be used for the garden. The local New Port Richey Patch Editor Adam came out and would like to do a publicity piece about Habitat for Humanity. (http://newportrichey.patch.com/ ) We believe we have a great seed started and it will grow into something highly productive! Within a Month: A recent volunteer Coordinator Rick will be joining us and we would like to begin when he returns from vacation on totally revamping the garden with volunteers and accomplishing Phase 1 for Fall vegetables. In the mean time till we can raise further funds to create the Aquaponics system of Phase 2 we would like to open up the south side of the garden area as a community garden space. We can follow a great plan of organizing a community garden area located here: http://www.communitygarden.org/learn/starting-a-community-garden.php . We could rent out for the season the plots along the south side for $15 to $30 depending on the size to the local community. We will move the current greenhouse over to another location and utilize it as a nursery for raising plants. The isolated room the south of Habitat could be cleaned up and used as retail space for specific garden equipment, organic fertilizers, vertical growing pots, worm castings and plants. All of this could generate money for Habitat for Humanity. Within 2 monthsWe could create a steady stream of income coming through the sale of plants and gardening supplies. The farmers market could be re-opened and vendors apply for renting booths. Vendors for the community garden space can also choose to come on that day and volunteer for the Phase 1 initiative of growing plants and selling for profit or CSA (Community Supported Agriculture: where we sell shares of the produce we create) Free events, workshops, movie showings, and volunteer opportunities will be on a constant rotation for the community to engage with Habitat for Humanity and learn more about sustainable living. We hope in the community located around Habitat we can encourage a community that creates positive change such as lowering the crime, ending drug abuse, keeping people in their homes, and creating cottage home industries for jobs of the unemployed. PERMACULTURE ETHICS: Care of People the community around Habitat for Humanity was recently shocked with the news of several officers shot at just recently. Sources of Income Phase 1 Setting up a Retail Outlet for edible landscaping: Selling products we could see a income stream anywhere from $100- $1,000 per week. Raised garden beds and home products could be produced at the habitat for sale such as chicken coops, rabbit cages, and chicken tractors. Food ForestAll the plants can be trimmed and new starter trees formed from the cuttings. A nursery license ($15 yearly fee) can be acquired and we can raise large amounts of fruiting trees. Each tree can be sold from $5- $200 ++ depending on their maturity. We can also acquire varieties of trees and resell them at our

retail space. Worm Farm- A worm farm can be composed out of volunteer labor and local free resources. Worms can be sold at retail spot for $15 or $20 per pound. Nursery- Starter plans can be created by the hundreds. Plants could be potted and sold $3-$10 or more for starter plants. Tomato and pepper plants can be sold at longer maturity for larger price $15-$20. Average weekly sales could be $300 ++ By planting a variety of trees that ripen different times of the year we can produce a steady stream of fruit to be sold locally. Peach Tree Maturity 1-2 years Produces ranges. 50-200 peaches per tree or more depending on maturity. X4 trees = a few hundred peaches. $2 per lbs. Sell starter trees for community from clippings $5-$15 per plant Loquat 1-2 years Produce ranges depending on maturity 100-400 loquats per tree x5-10 trees = thousands of loquats. $1.50 per lbs. Sell starter trees for community from clippings $5-$15 per plant Figs- 1-2 years produce ranges depending on maturity- 20-100 figs per tree. X5-10 trees = hundreds of figs. $2 or more per lbs. Sell starter trees for community from clippings $5-$15 per plant. Moringa Tree- less than 3 month maturity- Harvest the Leaves and seeds. Clippings can be sold as new plants for $5-$15. Dried leaves can sell $50 per lbs. Moringa grows 30 feet tall and can be harvested biweekly throughout the year except during frost season (3 months out of the year). Possible income could be $200- $500 per week at maturity of sold leaves. Dried leaves are high in protein, minerals, vitamins. Blueberries Less than 6 months maturity 50-100 blueberries per bush-x 10 -20 bushes = hundreds of berries. Could do you-pick berry tours or sell by the flat. Pecan tree- 3-5 year maturity- 100- 10,000 pecans per tree 3 trees. (These trees get big and would be placed farthest north of the garden giving the home Habitat ownes a living wall to block the community garden) Pecans sales could be $100-$300 per week at height of maturity or more. Row Garden area- Vegetables can be planted right away and during the next 2 months a we approach a new season. ( Brocolli, Green Beans, Radishes, Carrots, Lettuces, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Kale, Spinach, Squash, Sweet Peas, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers) Phase 1B- Community garden space Over 15 slots or more could be rented for $15-$25 per season averaging $225- $400 total. Phase 2 Aquaponics system could be set-up within 6 months depending on financing and construction. Sales of produce and Tilapia could be $300-$10,000 per week depending on the season. The greenhouse is important for environmental control to actually have year-round growing of leafy vegetables. Phase 3Event area could host quarterly benefit concerts to entertain and generate revenue for Habitat. $300-

$1,000 per event. WorkshopsIncome of the workshops would possibly bring in $50 - $300 per week depending on the volume of attendees. Retail SpaceWithin a few months we could see $100-$1,500 worth of sales weekly selling gardening supplies and plants. Benefit ConcertsWe can make it a habit to host regular benefit concerts to support and entertain the community every quarter. ($300- $1,000 fundraiser per event (Cost of hosting event $100)) Community Impact and Mission: Pasco has a hunger problem. Thousands of people are living in the forests all around the New Port Richey area. We can make it a mission to end Hunger in Pasco by forming a Coalition. Such a coalition has formed in Hernando county ( www.hungryinhernando.org) Green World Path a local creator of liquid compost and gardening supplies ( www.greenworldpath.com) hosted a meeting that I, Eric Stewart, attended and video taped. Having a mission based upon food we can expand the mission of Habitat for Humanity for keeping people in their homes in our local community by lowering their food costs! Building a coalition and hosting meetings we could create a Hungry in Pasco initiative. Build collaborations with all local groups ( Churches, local Farmers, Local Gardner, Restaurants, Real Estate, local Government, Police, and Homeless groups) and work with a county wide goal of helping the hungry and educating the community about locally grown chemical free and non genetically modified food.
