Dear Parents and Kinder-Hoppers, Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year!

I am so excited that you will be a part of Room 17 this year, and I am THRILLED to be your teacher! About me My name is Mrs. Martin, parents feel free to call me Shannon! This is my fifth year at Willow School, and I couldnt be happier! I absolutely LOVE teaching Kindergarten!!! I've been married for 12 years to my husband, Mike. We live about 30 miles South, in Bourbonnais. We have two four-legged members in our "family", Liono and Cheetara (the Thundercats). They are large orange and white cats, who spend most of their time sleeping. About Room 17 Our classroom is filled with fun and lots of learning. We spend a lot of time working on our Reading and Math Skills, but we also spend a lot of time singing and dancing! We have a frog theme in our classroom and I refer to my students as Kinder-Hoppers. Parents are always welcome, but be awareyour dancing shoes better be ready ! There will be an orientation for Kindergarten students and their parents/guardians on Wednesday, August 24th. This day is intended to help make the transition to school easier. Hopefully, the students will feel more comfortable when they come to school alone on Thursday. There will also be a bus orientation that parents and students are encouraged to attend in the large gym. There are two times you can choose from are 9AM and 10:15AM. I will be meeting with groups of families for 40 minutes. Your time is listed below. I will be answering any questions you have and students will have the opportunity to become familiar with our classroom. I encourage you to check out my classroom website (http://hsd153.org/teacher_list/teacher_details.asp_Q_ID_E_93_A_SchoolID_E_4) before Wednesday, so you can familiarize yourself with the ABCs of Room 17(you will receive a hard copy at Orientation). Please bring all of your childs school supplies with you, so we can get them organized! The only supplies that need to be marked with your childs name are their Crayola box of 64 crayons and the inside of their folders. Please make sure that your child has 1 plastic folder (any color) and 1 of each red, blue, and yellow 3 prong folders. I look forward to meeting all of you!! Sincerely,

Shannon Martin
