September 2011 Newsletter of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee Established 1904 Affiliated with the Photographic Society of America Wisconsin Area Camera Clubs Organization And the Wisconsin Print Circuit Richard Yehl, President; Sandra Weber, Vice President Dixie Lowin, Treasurer; Bert Hartinger, Secretary-Editor Meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of each month from September thru May at 7pm, in the Luther Manor Conference Room, 4545 N. 92nd St., Wauwatosa, Wisconsin Welcome to a New Program Season In a short two weeks or so we will have our first meeting to start off the 2011/2012 camera club program year. No doubt most all of you have taken some remarkably interesting photos during the summer break. At the September 1 meeting you will have an opportunity to show a sample of them. Bring in four images taken during the summer, on a memory stick if they are digital. Its too bad we cant show more, but meeting time is limited. At this first meeting, we will also have sign up sheets for the treat schedule, and for providing prints for the Luther Manor display on the panels in the Welcome Center. At the following meeting, September 15, we will discuss how to mount and to display prints, including perhaps tips on the stores where the best bargains can be obtained to buy display materials. Also for this second meeting bring prints for the Wisconsin Print Circuit competition, one in color and one black and white, sized 8x10 up to 16x20 inches. The prints should be unmounted. Judging for this competition will be in March, when we will judge prints from the other clubs in WACCO. Club Milestones Thanks to the hospitality of Kathy Braun and wonderful weather, the August 4 picnic was enjoyed by all who attended, which was almost everyone in the club, plus spouses and a couple guests. And thanks to the skill of Bob Lauer, we have proof of that in the form of the group portrait he took, which shows everyone in the picture smiling. The other milestone is our web site, designed and edited by Sandra Weber. It is good membership recruitment material for the club, informs of photographic opportunities, and allows displays of our images in a photo gallery. Dues Payments Dues payments should be given or sent to Treasurer Dixie Lowin by the time of the second September meeting. Dues are (only) $20.00 for an individual and $30.00 for a couple. PSA Kathy Braun has provided information about results of the PSA Region 21 Club Showcase competition. We came out high in the rankings. We were 5th from among thirteen competing clubs.
Among individual images, Cathy Braun came in 7th, with Atlantic Sunrise. John Lowin came in 12th with Sandhill Cranes, and Richard Yehl came in 20th with Hobo Minneapolis Slim. Congratulations to them. 7 images have already been chosen to represent our club in the coming Chapter 21 competition. The images were chosen from the winners of our last club competition. Looking Ahead Richard Yehl has made arrangements with the Cudahy Public Library for a display of framed prints from our club in the months of January and February of the coming year. So, pick out a matted and framed sample of your best work to be shown at this exhibition.
Odds and Ends Expenses of the Secretary for the last program year amounted to $39.94, for paper, ink, envelopes, and stamps. Currently the display panels in the Welcome Center at Luther Manor consist of mystery photos on one board, and photos by Bert Hartinger on the other. Pauline Beck and Richard Yehl and Gerry Harder deserve credit for the mystery photos. Pauline also made up an information sheet about the photo club, and is working on a brochure about the club that will be available for wide distribution. The picnic photo is by Bob Lauer.
