Salvation of Juan Carlos New couples who are attending church services We have purchased our tickets for a mini-furlough in October-November and are looking forward to seeing supporting churches, individual supporters and of course both of our families! (see pg. 2 for more details)
We have lived in Santa Marta, Colombia for a year and half now and it has been chock full of highs and lows! We continue to learn about the culture here and realize just how different it is from anywhere else we have ministered. We wanted to give you a quick glimpse into the past and a brief look toward the future along with some prayer requests so you can better pray for the ministries here. Making contacts: We arrived in February 2010 and spent the first two months looking for housing followed by another month or so getting things setup and getting our bearings. In addition to getting set up, one of our goals over the first 6 months as a team was establishing contacts, as we knew not a single soul when we moved here. Small groups: In July of 2010 we held our first “Grupo de Impacto” (Impact Group) which is our small group ministry. While the end goal of these groups is community and fellowship, we started the groups as seeker small group Bible studies. We praise God for the contacts made and the gospel decisions made. Seeing the first couple in the church come to know Christ and get baptized
are just some of the fruit we have seen in these groups. Today we have one “Grupo de Impacto” meeting in our home on Friday evenings and we have really seen this group solidify in the past month or so. The group is now all about community and Bible application and we are seeing lot’s of growth in this core group of 12-15.

Salvation of Alfonso and Arleth who are doing counseling with Scott.
Pray that this core continues to grow and that they will impact and spur the entire church towards more service and growth and that in a few more months we can launch a solid second group. Sunday services: In January 2011 we held our first official Sunday worship service. We moved from a temporary location that we rented once a week to where we now meet in an office that we rent and have access to throughout the week. Continued on page 2

The Carter Family Newsletter
“Ministry Moment” -cont’d”
While our attendance has ebbed and flowed (due to cultural factors we continue to learn about) we have seen some steady growth over the past few months. We have had an average of 30 people and even had some highs of 5060 in attendance. Continue to pray that we are able to move people from non-Christ followers to worshipers in Spirit and in truth and to move attenders to members. Also pray for faithfulness in attendance and growth in financial giving so that the church can become completely self-sustaining in the future. Mid-week Bible Institute:
Getting ready for Sunday service
In June 2011 we started our “Escuela de Impacto” (Impact School) which will serve as our Bible training institute as we move towards the future. We meet on Wednesday nights but in the future we are planning to offer modules at various times. Right now we are starting with basic discipleship classes and studies, but our long term goal is to supplement the classes offered so that we can train leaders and pastors. We have seen two people baptized due to these studies and in a few weeks we will be baptizing at least two more.
Missionary Jon Boyd giving a welcome to some new students.
Please pray for those who are studying (approx. 6-10) as well as others to take more interest. Pray for us as we move these people towards baptism and membership and train others to become the leaders of the church. Counseling ministry:
Opening a care package from the USA
Over the past 6 months Scott has been very involved in counseling (as have our co-workers Jon and Alfredo), especially with marriage counseling. It is beyond rare to find a couple here who is living in a monogamous and legal marriage. The details and problems are messy, sordid and rampant. As a result the needs for the gospel in families are huge and the ministry opportunities are endless.
We have our tickets! We would love to visit with you while we are in the USA and below are a few needs we will have during our stay! Send us an email if you would like to catch up or if you can help us meet a few needs! Our travel schedule is as follows: Oct. 1-15: New Jersey Oct. 15-31: Ohio
Oct. 31-Nov. 24: Iowa
