Psalm 112
1. Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. 2. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. 3. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever. 4. Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. 5. A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. 6. Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. 7. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. 8. His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies. 9. He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour. 10. The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

Psalm 112 has always been one of my favorite Psalms. It shows the characteristics of a man that fears the Lord and delights greatly in his commandments. Without going into detail with all the verses, I want o emphasize the area of giving.

Psalm 112:5
(Amplified Bible (AMP)

5. It is well with the man who deals generously and lends, who conducts his affairs with justice. This man is a generous man. He disperses and gives to the poor. He is gracious and full of compassion.

Paul quotes from this Psalm in encouraging the Corinthians to give to the poor saints at Jerusalem: 2 Cor.9:6-10
6. But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 7. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 8. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 9. (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 10. Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) Notice that this type of giving is connected to righteousness. The blessed man of Psalm 112 disperses to the poor, and his righteousness remains for ever. Notice the Message translation:

He throws caution to the winds, giving to the needy in reckless abandon. His right-living, right-giving ways never run out, never wear out. This most generous God who gives seed to the farmer that becomes bread for your meals is more than extravagant with you. He gives you something you can then give away, which grows into full-formed lives, robust in God, wealthy in

every way, so that you can be generous in every way, producing with us great praise to God. His right living and right giving ways never wear out. In other words he is a continuous giver. Continuous giving is a trait of a righteous person.
