ABSTRACT. Two new species of Mymaridae are described. These are Acmopolynema shrawastianum Hayat & Anis, and Mymar roopum Hayat & F. R. Khan. Also material pertaining to 6 species is recorded, and comments are given on male of Himopolynema species near parviscutum Taguchi. Key words: Indian Mymaridae, records, two new species.

Introduction The family Mymaridae is represented in India by a hundred species in twenty genera. The greatest number of species is described in Gonatocerus (40) followed by Polynema (11), whereas eleven genera are represented by one or two species. Recently we have collected a large number of specimens of some genera. In this paper we report 6 described species, and describe two new species, one of Acmopolynema and the second of Mymar. The following abbreviations are used for the depositories: NPCI National Pusa Collection, Division of Entomology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi ZDAMU Insect Collection, Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Records of species Note: Unless noted otherwise the specimens are on cards. 1. Gonatocerus breviterebratus Subba Rao

Specimens examined: INDIA: Uttar Pradesh: Pilibhit: Rooppur Kirpa, 1, 24.ix.2006 (SMA Badruddin & FR Khan); Lakhimpur (Kheri): Dhakin, 1 (on slide), 2, 28.ix.2006 (SMA Badruddin & FR Khan); Bahraich: Gulwa Ghat, 1 (on slide), 2.x.2006 (FR Khan). Comments: This species was described by Subba Rao (1989) from a female collected 25 kms. West of Mudigere (Karnataka). It was correctly placed in the litoralis group of Gonatocerus by Zeya & Hayat (1995). The record of males (new record) and females from Uttar Pradesh extends the distribution of this species into northern India.

Vol. 42

Specimens examined: INDIA: Uttar Pradesh: Shrawasti: Chakra Bhandar, 2, 3.x.2006; Balrampur: Sasai Ghat, 8, 14 (1 on slide), 6.x.2006; Gonda: Porter Ganj, 1, 7.x.2006; Gonda: Rajapura, 3 (2 on one slide), 8.x.2006; Farrukhabad: Chandpur, 1, 13.x.2006. (All FR Khan). Comments: There are two characters that are different in the Indian specimens referred to H. hishimonus, including those recorded earlier by Hayat & Anis (1999a) and Hayat & Singh (2001). First funicle segment (F1) shorter than F2, and 1.25x to 1.5x as long as broad, and the ridges on scape are not as dense as in the type specimens. In the absence of other reliable characters to separate the Indian specimens from the Japanese specimens, we prefer to consider these as conspecific with H. hishimonus. Taguchi (1977) recorded one male paratype, but did not describe it. The males recorded here are almost similar to males of H. malayanum Taguchi (1977). 3. Himopolynema sp. near parviscutum Taguchi (Figs. 1214) Specimen examined: INDIA: Himachal Pradesh: Solan: Brewery, 1 (on slide), 17.vi.2006 (SMA Badruddin & FR Khan). Comments: The single male from Himachal Pradesh appears to be related to H. parviscutum Taguchi (1977) and the specimens from Russia determined as H. ? parviscutum by Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy (2002); but differs from both in having the scape with cross-carinae; fore wing longer, 4.1x as long as broad; marginal fringe slightly shorter than wing width; and discal setation just distad of venation as in the Russian specimens (Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy, 2002: Fig. 2), but the fore wing in the Russian specimens is about 3.3x as long as broad. 4. Mymar schwanni Girault Specimens examined: INDIA: Uttar Pradesh: Gonda: RajaPura, 1, 8.x.2006 (FR Khan); Pilibhit: Rooppur Kirpa, 1, 29.ix.2006. (SMA Badruddin & FR Khan). Orissa: Cuttack: Bhanpur, 2, 21.xi.2007; Cuttack: Kanderpur, 2, 22.xi.2007; Puri: Matia Pada, 4, 1.xii.2007; Khorda: Kadurai, 1, 3.xii.2007; Sambalpur: Budharaja, 2, 11.xii.2007 (All FR Khan). 5. Mymar taprobanicum Ward This is a well-known cosmopolitan species. It is known from India from several localities in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttrakhand and Uttar Pradesh, and from Delhi. Specimens examined: INDIA: Himachal Pradesh: Mandi: Lohara, 1, 23.vi.2006; Mandi: Chandiyal, 3, 26.vi.2006 (All SMA Badruddin & FR Khan). Uttar Pradesh: Pilibhit: Roop Pur Kirpa, 1, 1, 24.ix.2006; Lakhimpur (Kheri): Lakhkhi Purwa, 2, 26.ix.2006; Lakhimpur: Imami Purwa, 1, 1, 27.ix.2006; Lakhimpur: Dhakin, 1, 28.ix.2006; Bahraich: Mulla Purwa, 1, 30.ix.2006 (All SMA Badruddin & FR Khan); Balrampur: Dusahein, 1, 4.x.2006; Balrampur: Bahadurpur, 1, 5.x.2006; Gonda: Porter Ganj, 1, 7.x.2006; Gonda: Rajapura, 9, 8.x.2006 (All FR Khan). Palaeoneura bagicha (Narayanan, Subba Rao & Kaur)

Specimens examined: INDIA: Himachal Pradesh: Mandi: Chandiyal, 1 (on slide), 26.vi.2006 (SMA Badruddin & FR Khan). Punjab: Pathankot: Dodhpur Kulian, 1, 11.vii.2006 (SMA Badruddin & FR Khan). Comments: This species was described in Polynema, then transferred to Chaetomymar (see Hayat, 1992; Huber, 2003), and more recently to Palaeoneura by Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy (2007) who placed Chaetomymar in synonymy with Palaeoneura. This species has so far been recorded from the Indian States of Delhi, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. 7. Stephanodes reduvioli (Perkins) Hayat (1992) and Hayat & Anis (1999c) recorded this species from several localities in the Indian States of Bihar, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttrakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Specimens examined: INDIA: Himachal Pradesh: Solan: Bergaon, 1, 3, 16.vi.2006; Mandi: Chandiyal, 1, 1, 26.vi.2006 (All SMA Badruddin & FR Khan). Uttar Pradesh: Mathura: Nagla Pachhava, 8, 5.ix.2007 (FR Khan). Descriptions of new species 1. Acmopolynema shrawastianum Hayat & Anis, sp. nov. (Figs. 17) Female: Length, holotype, 0.68 mm. Body nearly black, shiny, smooth; ovipositor sheaths dark brown; petiole whitish. Antenna with scape largely brown except distal half, dorsal margin of pedicel brown; F1 dorsally brown; F2-4 brownish; clava dark brown, rest of antenna pale yellow (Fig. 1). Wings hyaline; fore wing with infuscate spot on blade distally adjacent to anterior margin (Fig. 3). Legs including coxae, pale yellow; fore femur except apex, dark brown; mid femur, distal half or so of mid tibia brown; hind femur dark brown; distal half of hind tibia; last joints of all tarsi dark brown. Structural details as illustrated in Figs. 17. Relative measurements: Head frontal width, 78.5; height, 61; frontovertex width at toruli, 50; eye length, 39; malar space, 22; mouth fossa width, 28. Thorax length (width), 102 (60); fore wing length (width), 264 (60); venation length, 70; marginal fringe length, 60; hind wing length (width), 232 (9); marginal fringe, 36. Gaster length, 148; exserted part of ovipositor, 29; ovipositor length, 168 [Lengths: Tibiae: fore, 56; mid, 76; hind, 94; Tarsi: fore, 80; mid, 94; hind, 100]. The petiole is tilted and hence can not be measured. Male: Unknown. Holotype: (on slide under 4 coverslips): INDIA: Uttar Pradesh: Shrawasti: Chakra Bhandar, 3.x.2006 (FR Khan) (In NPCI, Reg. No. 13/6/59/4). Host: Unknown. Distribution: India: Uttar Pradesh. Etymology: The species name is derived from the district from which the holotype was collected. Comments: This new species is very close to A. bimaculatum Subba Rao (1989: see also Hayat & Anis, 1999 b, Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy, 2007) , but differs from that species in several characters: presence of a single infuscate spot on fore wing disc

distally; different dimensions of funicle segments; fore wing elongate, 4.4x as long as broad; marginal fringe as long as wing width; ovipositor 2.21x as long as mid tibia; and ovipositor exserted to 0.24x of gaster when measured from carded specimen, but 0.19x after mounting on slide. [In bimaculatum paratype and (the specimen recorded by Hayat & Anis, 1999b): fore wing disc with two infuscate spots, one opposite the other, posterior spot smaller; fore wing 3.76x (3.81x) as long as broad; marginal fringe 0.76x (0.86x) of wing width; ovipositor 1.48x (1.52x) as long as mid tibia; and ovipositor hardly exserted, 0.04x (0.05x) of gaster length.] . 2. Mymar roopum Hayat & F. R. Khan, sp. nov. (Figs. 811) Female: Length, 0.65-0.70 mm. (Holotype, 0.70 mm). Head pale brown to yellow; head trabeculae dark brown; thoracic sutures brown; mesoscutum brown; axillae and mesopleuron posteriorly washed with brown; scutellum medially and posterior half or so brownish; propodeum pale brown; gaster, except basal half, dark brown. Antenna pale yellow; scape brown along dorsal margin, F1 and F2 pale brown; clava dark brown. Fore wing infuscate as in Fig. 9, Legs pale yellow; tibia and tarsal segments 1-3 pale brown, last tarsal segment of all legs brown. Structurally this species is very similar to the cosmopolitan M. taprobanicum, and therefore relative dimensions of some body parts are given from the holotype. Relative measurements: Holotype (on card before mounting it on slide): Head dorsal, length, 11; head dorsal width, 14, frontovertex width at widest, 10; eye length, 8; eye width, 5. Antenna (length): scape, 16.5; pedicel, 5; flagellum, 53. Thorax length, 22. Gaster length, 19. (From slide):Antenna (lengths): Scape, 92; pedicel, 25; F1, 24; F2, 105.5; F3-6; ca78; F3, 17; F4,16.5;F5, 20.5; F6, 21; clava, 58. Petiole length, 13. Gaster length, 26; ovipositor length, 20; mid tibia length, 34; hind tibia length, 42. Male: Unknown. Holotype: (on slide under 4 coverslips, one antenna missing): INDIA: Uttar Pradesh: Pilibhit: Roop Pur Kirpa, 24.ix.2006 (SMA Badruddin & FR Khan) (In NPCI, Reg. No. 13/6/59/3) Paratype: 1 (on slide under 2 coverslips, left fore wing missing): Data same as for holotype. (In ZDAMU). Host: Unknown. Distribution: India: Uttar Pradesh. Etymology: The species name is an arbitrary combination of letters. Comments: This species runs to M. taprobanicum Ward in the keys to Mymar species given by Annecke (1961) and Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy (2001), but differs from that cosmopolitan species mainly in having longer flagellar segments, F3-6 each at least 3x as long as broad, so that the clava is 0.74x as long as F3-6 combined; F6 1.23x as long as F3; relatively longer mid and hind tibiae, each 1.7x and 2.1x as long as ovipositor length respectively. [In taprobanicum, which is represented by several specimens in the ZDAMU, and based on the redescription and measurements given by Annecke (1961), has F3 less than 3x as long as broad and distinctly shorter than F6, the later 1.5x-2.1x of F3; clava 0.87-1.08x of F3-6 combined; relatively shorter mid and hind tibiae, each 1.221.37x, and 1.59-1.7x as long as ovipositor respectively.]
