Scope
To evaluate the Business Process Management functionality of the SAP Solution Manager 4.0 and the potential integration of the functionality as part of the Sasol BPM method. To prepare an example as proof of concept of the integration of ARIS, SAP Solution Manager and SAP XI. Additional SAP Solution Manager BPM related functionality including training, scripting and authorisation are excluded from this proof of concept.

Proof on Concept Background

We have selected a Sasol Gas Business Process, model it in ARIS and implement it in Solution Manager and SAP XI The Purpose and Objective of the selected AMR Gas Process are:
To match the stock value calculated in SAP to the actual stock value calculated in the pipeline To supply gas to customers and accurately account for purchases, sales and stock gas balances

Potential Value of BPM in Sasol

Recommendations
Manage Expectations
Technically no specific product related problems were identified and it is thus possible to extend the Sasol BPM method to include the Solution Manager and SAP XI BPM related functionality BUT The process dictates the level of BPM that is feasible Keep in mind the complexity in setting up the BPM Consider the tedious compilation The default SAP content in SAP Solution Manager is still immature in certain areas

Recommendations
Tool based method (Consider tool constraints and licenses) Process driven approach (Start with business process in ARIS) Keep ARIS content closely synchronized with Solution Manager Detail know-how to be documented as part of Roadmap in Solution Manager

Next Steps
Confirm extended Sasol BPM Method and Capability
Roles and responsibilities: SEAT and SAP Module Consultants Licenses and upgrade to ARIS 7 environment Synchronization of Process view vs. Scenario view Synchronization of SAP only or SAP and non-SAP processes steps Naming standards to identify macro process and process groups in Solution Manager Consider usage of SAP recommended symbol in ARIS

Areas for further investigation: training, testing, authorizations, master data, organization structure, Solution Manager generated Blueprint vs. BCD Document know-how as part of Solution Manager Roadmap Synchronize Sasol Baseline to Solution Manager

Summary
The objective of the SAP Solution Manager as Part of BPM initiative was to evaluate the ARIS, SAP Solution Manager and SAP XI BPM functionality and integration. The ARIS, Solution Manager and SAP XI BPM functionality and integration is technically stable. A process driven approach is the key for the integration. The maturity of the process driven approach within a BU will impact the level of BPM that is feasible. From a Management of Change perspective there is value in the integration from Blueprint to Implementation to Monitoring. BPM is also about monitoring, measurement and optimization and the set of products provide functionality to be exploit. Governance is critical to manage the usage of the functionality.
