How Following the Breadcrumbs of Passion Led Me to Life On Purpose
After many frustrating years of searching for meaning and purpose in my life, I finally realized during a spiritual workshop on the universal laws of prosperity that at least one aspect of my life purpose was life purpose itself. This led me to creating my first Purpose Project, to bring more passion to my writing career as a freelance journalist. I entitled it, Project Purpose: To write and publish articles about people and institutions whose lives and missions were dedicated to a bold and inspired purpose or vision. The project resulted in my interviewing dozens of people who were already living and expressing their life purpose, often in some structured way like a business or non-profit. It eventually dawned on me that I could also create a business that was a pure expression of my life purpose. Thus, Life On Purpose Institute was born. In the process, I felt guided to follow what I call the ‘breadcrumbs of my passion.’ I used that as my inner guidance and what I’m passionate about to direct me along my path to creating a “business on purpose.” Since I’ve always been interested and curious about the Internet, it seemed like a natural step along the path to create Life On Purpose Institute as a web-supported enterprise. I began by first testing the waters with a simple, homemade web site and was amazed to find that it attracted clients who were interested in clarifying their own life purpose through the Life On Purpose Process that had also come to me during this time. This gave me the confidence to take the next step along the path, which was to have a professional web site designed. Within 3 months of launching the new web site and with very little marketing, I began to realize that I had the proverbial “tiger by the tail,” as I began getting inquires from all over the world about life purpose. Indeed, I learned that the first “W’s” in “WWW” really do stand for “world wide,” not just USA-wide. It then became clear to me that if I was going to maintain my own life on purpose – a life of service, simplicity, and spiritual serenity – and at the same time allow my vision for making a significant contribution to the planet, I would need to expand my resources beyond myself. You see, the vision of Life On Purpose Institute is:
A * * *
World On Purpose -- People living lives of: Purposeful, passionate and playful service Mindful abundance balanced with simplicity, and Spiritual serenity.
Our mission is: To profoundly touch and contribute to at least 1% of the world’s population by assisting them in clarifying and living true to their life purpose. None of this is possible alone. Thus, the Coaches Development Program was created as the means to creating a Global Community of highly effective and successful Life On Purpose Coaches (the program is now known as the Coaches Mentoring Program. More info is available online at http://www.lifeonpurpose.com/cmp ). So you see, helping people like yourself to turn your calling into a purposeful and prosperous career is completely in line with the vision and mission of Life On Purpose Institute and my own personal purpose for being on planet earth. This is what I call a life of integrity and congruency.
Helping people like yourself to turn your calling into a purposeful and prosperous career is completely aligned with the vision and mission of Life On Purpose Institute and my own personal purpose for being on planet earth.
Our world on purpose is a work in progress. If you’ve longed to be a part of something much larger than yourself, and if the vision and mission of Life On Purpose Institute resonates with you, I would welcome you to become an integral part of the Life On Purpose Global Coaches Community. Read on to learn more about how we’re transforming the world, one person at a time.
What Do You Mean, “Turn Your Calling into Your Career?”
Have you noticed lately how many people are dissatisfied with the work they do. Even though we’re working harder and longer hours, many people are enjoying their work far less. In a recent USA Today poll, 50% of American Workers are "Unhappy at Work" and the numbers are as high as 66% in New England and steadily growing nationwide! According to the Associated Press, “Workers are growing more unhappy with their jobs in many parts of the country. A survey of 5,000 people found that while most Americans continue to find their jobs interesting and are even satisfied with their commutes, a bare majority like their jobs. Only 51 percent were satisfied with their jobs, compared with 59 percent in 1995, the survey revealed. The group found a similar level of job dissatisfaction in a 2000 study.” At Life On Purpose we feel it isn’t necessary for people to spend 8 –10 hours or more per day doing something that only creates distress and dissatisfaction. We also feel that one of the key ingredients missing is that people aren’t clear about their life purpose, and so they don’t know how to design a job that is a match for their true purpose in life. I have found from personal experience and from working with many other people -both life purpose clients and students in our Coaches Development Program -- that when people start by first clarifying their life purpose, they are then able to attract, find, create or design a career that is a match for who they are and why they are here on planet Earth. This is what we refer to as turning your calling into your career. As Frederick Buechner says: “Where our deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet, there you will find a further call.” Many people are attracted to our Coaches Mentoring Program and to the Life On Purpose Coaches Collective because they realize how deeply satisfying it could be to assist people in clarifying their life purpose and helping them to design a life consistent with that purpose. Being able to do this with a community of likeminded people drawn together by a common vision and shared values is even more fun.
What is a Life Coach, Life Purpose Coach and Life On Purpose Certified Coach?
There are many ways to explain what a life coach is. One of the simplest is to compare a life coach to a sports coach. What is the job of a sports coach? Isn’t it to assist the player in improving their performance in the sport, beyond what the player is able to do by them self? Well, that’s basically what a life coach does, with the main difference being that the sport they work with is LIFE. A life purpose coach is a specialized type of life coach that works from a life purpose perspective, helping to enhance the quality of their client’s life by assisting them to identify their life purpose so the client can then begin to design their life to be consistent with their purpose. A Life On Purpose Certified Coach is someone who has a major advantage over a lot of other life coaches and life purpose coaches because they have been thoroughly trained in the Life On Purpose Process – a proven, systematic yet flexible, spiritually based coaching approach their clients use to clarify their life purpose and live true to it. A Life On Purpose Certified Coach has not only completed the curriculum of the Coaches Development Program, which includes coaching clients through the Life On Purpose Process, they have also gone through a rigorous evaluation and certification process that assures them and their clients that they can be counted on to effectively coach their clients along the Purposeful Path that makes up the Life On Purpose Process. Perhaps the Life On Purpose Coaches Creed says what a Life On Purpose Coach is for their clients:
Life On Purpose Coaches Creed
Imagine a relationship where the total focus is on you, on your life purpose and on living true to it....
• • • Imagine someone listening, not only to your words, but also to the soul behind them as it expresses its truest desires . . . Imagine someone who will be your partner as you hold yourself accountable for living true to your life purpose . . . Imagine this person being curious about your dreams and aspirations, your vision for the world and what you are most passionate about in your life -- a person who will help you clarify projects that are consistent with your vision, values and being and will help you develop the means to fulfill them . . . Imagine a relationship in your life with a person who is sometimes even more committed to what you want in your life than you are . . . Imagine in this relationship you could count on this person to absolutely tell you the truth with ruthless compassion -- the truth about your many gifts and talents that perhaps you've taken for granted, as well as where they see you're selling out on who you really are . . . Imagine a relationship that supports you in breaking free from the self-limiting constraints of your past -- where now the voice exposing your limitations is recognized for what it is -- a voice from the past, and it's your true spirit that is nurtured to shape and form your life, moment by moment, day by day.
Tell Me More about the Life On Purpose Process
I describe the Life On Purpose Process as a “proven, systematic yet flexible, spiritually based approach for assisting people to clarify and live true to their life purpose.” Let’s look in more detail what that all means. Proven: Well, over the past 8-plus years thousands of people have used the Life On Purpose Process to clarify and live true to their life purpose. In other words, we know that it works. Systematic yet flexible: The Process is designed as a systematic, organized approach that allows our coaches to guide people along their own purposeful path while at the same time being flexible, which allows each coach to bring their own style and personality to it. Coaches are also able to take ‘side trips’ off the purposeful path if they feel some other aspects of their coaching skill will serve their client, then jump right back onto the path and take the next steps. Spiritually based: At Life On Purpose Institute we take the case that life purpose is spiritually based but not necessarily relegated to any one particular religion. In other words, we feel that it’s each person’s choice which path they take, while inviting people to include a spiritual aspect in their life. For assisting people to clarify and live true to their purpose: You can consider the Life On Purpose Process like a road map along the purposeful path and a Life On Purpose Coach as a guide. The first destination along the path is to have the client become crystal clear about their life purpose and then the next leg of the journey is to live true to that purpose.
The 6 Passages of the Purposeful Path
You can think of the process of clarifying one’s life purpose as a pathway, what I like to refer to as the Purposeful Path. The Life On Purpose Process is your roadmap along the Purposeful Path and a Life On Purpose Coach serves as the guide. We break the journey into 6 discrete passages. (A passage is defined as the "action or process of passing from one place, condition or stage to another.”) Let me summarize the 6 different passages that make up the journey: 1. Preparing for the Journey Along the Purposeful Path: Like any challenging journey, it’s best to thoroughly prepare yourself for your travels along the Purposeful Path. This includes accurately determining where you are starting from and where you intend to end up, as well as what are some of the primary obstacles to receiving the most value from the Process. 2. Starting on the Correct Path with the Life On Purpose Perspective: as with any journey, it makes sense to begin on the path that will get you where you want to go most expediently, so we explore deeply the Life On Purpose Perspective that is the foundation of the Life On Purpose Process. In rethinking
our notions about what a life purpose is, we open a portal to a new world of possibility – the possibility of living ALL of our life on purpose. 3. Clarifying What Has Been Shaping Your Life – Your Inherited Purpose: Another key passage along the Purposeful Path is clearly identifying what has been shaping your life and keeping you from clarifying and living your true, divinely inspired life purpose. We call this the Inherited Purpose – a powerful life shaping force that is based in fear, lack and a need to struggle to survive. Many who have already traveled along the Purposeful Path feel that identifying their specific and unique Inherited Purpose to be one of the most powerful, transforming parts of the Process. 4. Clarifying & Polishing Your True, Divinely Inspired Purpose: After “cleaning the slate” by identifying and beginning to be responsible for your Inherited Purpose, the real fun begins as you go through a process called "Priming Your Passion" to clarify your true, divinely inspired life purpose. The process can be not only life affirming, but also life transforming. This completes Stage 1 or the clarifying your life purpose stage. 5. Learning the Tools for Living On Purpose: This is the start of Stage 2 of the Process in which you begin to live true to your life purpose. This is where the “rubber meets the road” and where some of the biggest transformations take place as you’re introduced to 14 Power Tools for Living On Purpose. You will use these tools to begin to build your life on purpose. 6. Mastering the Tools for Living On Purpose: Of course, being introduced to a set of tools is just the beginning, especially if you’re interested in building a masterpiece of a life on purpose. In this next part, you will learn how to master the art and science of creating a life that is shaped by your true, divinely inspired life purpose.
How Do I Know if I’m a Life On Purpose Coach?
Are you a Life On Purpose Coach in disguise? Whether you’re just considering the coaching profession, a new coach still establishing yourself, or a seasoned coach with years of experience, it is possible that you are also a Life On Purpose Coach in disguise. In other words, you resonate strongly with the idea of deeply and profoundly impacting the lives of others by assisting them in the transformational process of clarifying their life purpose and living true to it. No one else can determine for you if you’re a Life On Purpose Coach. Only you can make that determination. However, to assist you in the process, we’ve included in this report a simple way to evaluate for yourself with the following statements. Circle the number that feels right to you for each statement. Then total up your score and check the descriptions to learn more about yourself.

Is There Really a Need for Life Purpose Coaching?
Remember the quote of Frederick Buechner’s: “Where our deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet, there you will find a further call.” Life On Purpose’s deep gladness is for all people to know with crystal clarity their life purpose and to live true to it. But, what about the world’s deep hunger? Is there really a need for life purpose coaches? Is it really possible to support your family and yourself as a life purpose coach? Here are a few interesting statistics that address those questions: According to the popular book Cool Careers for Dummies, 46 percent of men and 40 percent of women say they are still trying to figure out the meaning and purpose of their life. According to the best selling book by Cynthia Kersey entitled Unstoppable: When William Marsten, a prominent psychologist, asked 3,000 people, “What have you to live for?” 94 percent responded by saying they had no definite purpose for their lives -- 94 percent! But perhaps the best place to look to determine the need and hunger that exists is in any newspaper. Looks pretty bad, doesn't it? Are we going to "Hell in a Hand Basket?" Appears we're killing each other while at the same time we're killing the Earth. Here are some interesting facts: • • • About 25,000 people are murdered in this country every year. Another 100,000 people are raped during that same time. Nearly 2.5 million cases of suspected child abuse, sexual abuse and neglect are reported each year. Every day at least 3 children die from abuse and neglect in this country alone. Many scientists believe that the loss of genetic diversity is one of our greatest threats, with species extinction currently running at one thousand times the natural rate, 27,000 per year, 75 per day.
Many people say it’s too late for us. They say these facts prove we are inherently evil and that we're doomed to perish. Others blame our governmental system. The rich and affluent point to the poor and unemployed as the problem while the poor and middle-class say it’s our economic system. The rich get richer while the poor -well, you know the line. At Life On Purpose, we see another possibility. We invite you to consider a different perspective and to share in our vision: A world where all people live purposeful, passionate and playful lives of service; lives of mindful abundance balanced with simplicity; and spiritual serenity.
Who Will My Clients Be and How Do I Attract Them?
There are a number of ways to answer the first half of this question. Let’s look at some of them, starting with one of the largest market segments that are perfect candidates to become your clients. They’re called Cultural Creatives.
Paul H. Ray, Ph.D., Executive Vice President of American LIVES, Inc., a market research and opinion-polling firm, has identified a group made up of one quarter of the American population. He calls them Cultural Creatives. Their most important values are altruism, simplicity, idealism, spiritual development, ecological sustainability, concern for mutuality in relationships and the importance of cultural creativity and activism for a better world.
Cultural Creatives’ most important values are altruism, simplicity, idealism, spiritual development, ecological sustainability, concern for mutuality in relationships and the importance of cultural creativity and activism for a better world.
Ray points out these are not 'New Agers'. Many of them are from conventional religious backgrounds but are searching for deeper meaning in their lives. One quarter of the American population translates to between 45 and 50 million potential clients for Life on Purpose Coaches. More recent findings by Paul Ray indicates that there are at least that many Cultural Creatives in Europe as well. While this is already a sizable market niche, since becoming a "virtual university" on the World Wide Web, we've discovered the questions, "who am I and why am I here," to be universal, which is why we moved up our schedule to create a Global Coaches Community through our Coaches Development Program by approximately 2 years.
More Insights Into Client Candidates I’ve noticed a lot of the people who are attracted to become clients of Life On Purpose Coaches appear to fall into 3 basic groups:
Group 1 People in this group aren’t yet aware of the importance of knowing their life purpose, but they have life situations they need to work on. Often, when these people connect with a life purpose coach, they realize that knowing their true purpose in life is a vital first step to long-term satisfaction. Some of the most common life issues that bring these people to coaching include: • • • • • • Money and financial concerns Overwhelm Unsatisfying jobs and careers Unsatisfying relationships Life lacks focus Too much stuff -- clutter and disorganization
Group 2 People who have awakened to the realization that knowing their life purpose is integral to living a satisfying and fulfilling life, but haven’t a clue how to clarify their purpose. Often times, these people have misidentified their life purpose to be what they do in life – either a job or career, or a role such as being a good parent or employee. When they are exposed to the Life On Purpose Perspective, a whole new world of possibilities begins to open up for them. Group 3 The last group already knows their life purpose to one degree or another, but because they’ve not done the work to distinguish their Inherited Purpose, they keep sabotaging themselves every time they try to live true to their purpose.
What is the Pathway to Becoming a Life On Purpose Coach?
The simple answer is The Coaches Mentoring Program. NOTE: Since the Coaches Mentoring Program is an evolving program, we encourage you to visit our web site for the latest information about the program at http://www.lifeonpurpose.com/cmp . The Coaches Mentoring Program is designed as a series of 3 modules, intended to be completed by the student within one year. However, since the profession of coaching is best learned “on the field of play” our students begin coaching their first clients within 4-6 months of beginning the program. A classic coaching model that serves as the foundational structure of the Coaches Development Program is the BE, DO, HAVE Model
Typically, the way most of us approach life is from right to left. For example, if we want to become something, like a coach, we often think we need to start by determining what we need to have -- such as coaching skills, tools, an office, clients, etc. So we try to figure out what we need to do in order to have those things, thinking that if we do the right things long enough we will eventually become a coach. At Life On Purpose, we suggest a more powerful approach is from left to right. Start by envisioning yourself already a masterful coach, then do the things that masterful coaches do, and you will attract all the things that masterful coaches have. Coaches!
A Few Kind Words From Our Students
Most of us like to hear what others think of something before we invest our time and energy into it, so here are what several of our students and coaches have to say about the Life On Purpose Process. Maryanna Bock Mbock@maine.rr.com The value received from the Life On Purpose Process: "I have received a very nuts and bolts kind of tool to navigate my own consciousness. I know instantly where I am. I feel the symptom -- I identify the shaping agent -- which inherited purpose or my life purpose. I love the freedom and joy as my life shifts to love and creativity in small things -- the otherwise mundane frustrations -- that is where the power to transform the experience of life really lies for me. When every engagement becomes an adventure in LOVE." Helaine Iris email@example.com The value received from the Life On Purpose Process: "I feel that clarifying my life purpose tied all the loose ends together, giving me permission to fully step into and live the life I saw possible for myself. It has been a gift to watch my life unfold in front of me and witness so much grace." Bryan Knipper Knippbryn@aol.com The value received from the Life On Purpose Process: "The purpose process assisted in reopening the creativity that had lain dormant inside of me for so many years. When I began the process, I didn't know exactly what to expect. I figured that it would give me some direction in determining what I wanted to do with my life and maybe I'd find the "right job" for me. I wasn't thinking about working for myself and growing a business. Now I'm beginning to write, and I thought I'd never be a writer." Lynise Harris Lkkhomo@aol.com The value received from the Life On Purpose Process: "I understand that I am responsible for creating the life that I want and I understand that all I have to do is create it, want it and then expect it. Specifically, When I became clear about who I am through the Life On Purpose Process, I changed jobs and am now at a company that I like; I attracted a wonderful, wise, intelligent man into my life; my income increased; I lost 10 pounds and have been more peaceful, confident, energetic and focused than I have ever been in my whole life. I am pursuing my coaching certification which is one of my boldest moves yet!" Nancy O’Brien firstname.lastname@example.org The value received from the Life On Purpose Process: "The purpose process allowed me to clear some more unresolved issues, move through some energy 15
blocks/drains and get clear about my purpose which was very important to me. I am much more conscious and aware as a result of the Life On Purpose Process. Everything in my life is much more vivid and alive and each day that I live with passion and purpose, I evolve. I laugh more." Cheryl M. Coffey email@example.com The value received from the Life On Purpose Process: "Clarifying my life purpose has allowed me to know myself again and be more joyful and playful. Specifically, my stepmother and I now have a much better relationship after 20+ years of not getting along. My husband and I have taken our relationship to a new level of support and communication. The tools I've applied have helped me to come from a place of inner strength and confidence without becoming defensive or taking things personally. I'm very comfortable being me right now and more tolerant toward others." Barbara Lee Fedrizzi firstname.lastname@example.org The value received from the Life On Purpose Process: As we experienced the Life On Purpose Process for the very first time, we were told that we would be transformed by it. This is so very true! By figuring out what my priorities in life are, what my purpose in life is, and what has held me back from realizing my dreams, I have gained such clarity about life. Since I started this program, I have moved to a beautiful area, changed jobs so that I have much less stress, spend lots and lots of time with my family and have grown spiritually. Each morning I do a purpose practice to awaken my spirit and think about how I will approach this new day God has given me.
“Insights alone are like a pinch in the buttocks – momentarily interesting but hardly life transforming.” Judy Billman - Coach I trust that as you’ve read through this special report, you’ve gleaned a few useful and potentially valuable insights from it. Now, the question is, will you take action? Is it even appropriate to take action in this case? I really mean that. I know that not everyone is a fit for being a coach, and certainly not a Life On Purpose Coach. It takes a special breed of a person to make such a commitment. That’s why we included the self-evaluation in this report – to assist you in determining whether you’re up to such a commitment. So, if you scored above a 50 on the self-evaluation, then I recommend you take some action consistent with that insight. Here are some of the actions that will move you forward: 1. Review the information about the Coaches Mentoring Program at: http://www.lifeonpurpose.com/cmp 2. Contact our registrar, Ann Swift, by calling toll free, (828) 697-0057 or by emailing email@example.com 3. Prepare for the transformational ride of your life!
