What is a VariabIe?
A variabIe is a symboI, usuaIIy a Ietter, that represents one
or more numbers.
A variabIe expression consists of numbers, variabIes and
the operations to be performed. To evaIuate a variabIe
expression, substitute a number for each variabIe and
evaIuate the resuIting numericaI expression.
To avoid confusion between the muItipIication symboI x
and the variabIe x, you shouId express muItipIication with
variabIes in one of the foIIowing ways:
muItipIication dot
parentheses
no symboI
EvaIuate the expression:
1. s + 9, when s = 7
2. 13 - r, when r = 5
3. x - 3, when x = 8
