The Big UAW Swindle? Not If The Workers Stand Strong Against a UAW Gone Wrong!

A frontal assault by the company and forced entry from the rear by King’s Enforcement Officers. That’s not speculation, it’s the voice of experience.
I am going out on a limb here and making a couple predictions of the LOW LIGHTS of the agreement that King and his cronies will try to shove down our throats..... ******************* Defined benefit pension as we know it today is D.O.A. in 2011. Workers who deny pensions are on the chopping block. They have all the optimism of bums who sleep on railroad tracks. From here on out workers will be offered a cash balance plan which is a legal maneuver for companies to reduce pension cost. Those eligible to retire will get a carrot and a stick: get out now while the getting is good because the best of times are over. Workers who are eligible to retire but choose to keep working will NOT earn more pensions credits and they will lose out in the cash balance shuffle where time is stacked against them and the dealer cuts the deck. ****************** They will tell us that they won a provision that makes every new hire permanent after 89 days, BUT! What they won't tell you is that the UAW Concession Caucus signed a Memorandum of Understanding that gives the company permission to hire 15% of the workforce as permanent temps at $15 an hour and no health care. UAW members back-stabbed again by the organization that is supposed to protect them! ****************** Remember that merit pay grievance? Merit pay and 401(k) matches were reinstated for salary workers in 2010, but they weren't for their hourly counterparts. Just wait!! it was already agreed to by King and Ford to wait to put it in the highlights. ****************** Five Priorities for 2011: 1. Equal Pay for Equal Work - eliminate tiers. 2. Make all temporary workers permanent. 3. Reinstate the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA). 4. No more plant closings - Re-open & convert shuttered plants to produce green jobs.

5. Full disclosure & right to ratify all contract changes no rushed vote. We want to actually see the whole contract we are to vote on!

How Will They Make It?
2-Tier employees; I don’t know how they expect to make it. They are not going to make it. They will never achieve economic security. The new generation of auto workers are not destined to enjoy the standard of living my generation took for granted. This is not a recession in the classic sense of the word, it’s a downscale restructuring. FORD sponsored, UAW crafted attack on collective bargaining is the final phase of the new New Deal. UAW officials insist that workers should accept 2 tier & wage freezes so they might live to fight another day. Their split-tongued LIES are pathological. Second tier workers could get a three percent raise every year for the next thirty years and not reach the level of pay in inflation adjusted dollars that I earned when I first hired in 1995! The hole is too deep to postpone the fight for another day. The gambler who wins knows when to stop digging. If UAW members don’t demand equal rights this year, they will be buried in debt before they retire. In which case they won't retire, they will expire broke and defeated. What can we expect from a union whose world view is wedded to the corporation and whose only hope for the future is hinged on reducing compensation for new hires? The UAW International has stated publicly that the primary goal of 2011 negotiations is securing more jobs and that they are willing to expand the exploitation of second tier workers to accomplish that goal.

The principle of equal pay for equal work is a universally-recognized basic human right included in the UAW Constitution The only thing we can commend King for in these negotiations is his blunt honesty about the goal: To make the companies more profitable. (at the workers expense) Profit sharing is a hoax. Profit is what capital extracts from labor, not what it shares with labor. Shares are what CEOs are rewarded for screwing workers. A union leader who promotes profit sharing as a way for workers to achieve economic justice is nothing but a LIAR, CHEAT & CORPORATE PROSTITUTE with a cheesy smile and suitcase full of unearned dues money!
