Introduction
Project connector for service manager is an Add-In for Microsoft Project that enables project owners/managers to create change request tickets directly from Microsoft Project directly into Microsoft Service Manager. The freely available Add-In can be downloaded from http://www.expit.com/registration.html

Overview
This guide will familiarize you with deployment and setup information about the expit Project connector for service manager Add-In. With this information, you can deploy, test and understand the features this service manager AddIn offers.

Features
The connector creates a change request ticket with the following characteristics: 12345Resource assignment from within service manager defined resources CIs are appended under description field of tickets generated Change request number is added into the task as a separate column Upon closure of change request, task is market as 100% complete in the Project plan Connector allows for retrieval of change requests created by user from Service manager

Supported Environments
The connector supports the following versions of Microsoft Project: Microsoft Project Professional 2010 Microsoft Project Standard 2010 The connector supports the following versions of Microsoft Service Manager: Microsoft Service Manager 2010 SP1 or later Minimum Operating System requirements: Windows XP SP 3 or later with .Net Framework 4.0 Windows Vista SP1 or later with .Net Framework 4.0 Windows 7 SP1 or later with .Net Framework 4.0

Setup the Connector


Double click on setup file to setup the Project connector.

you will prompted to accept installing Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime component, this component is prerequisite to complete the setup, if the computer is connected to the internet this component will be downloaded and installed automatically.

If the computer is not connected to the internet you can download it form Microsoft website and install it before installing the connector. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=20479

Complete the Setup wizard.

Open Microsoft Project, you will be prompted to install System Center Service Manager Add-in, Click on Install button.

Publish Tasks
After the installation is completed, click on Connect to Service Manager button, window will pop-up, type the credentials and click Connect Note: Service Manager Connection is the SCSM : Server Name the credentials

Now you can create a new task by typing the Task Name, the Task Type must be System Center Service Manager Task to be converted into an SCSM change request.

Specify the Start date and Finish date, the Duration time will be calculated automatically.

In Resource Names you will assign the task (Change Request) to a specific user Change Initiator, Change Manager.

Note: You must type the User Name in the domain\username format to appear into the change request in SCSM.

After completing all fields in the task, now you need to click on Publish Tasks button to submit this task as a Change Request into SCSM.

When the task is published in SCSM, a request ID will be determined by SCSM and this ID will appear in the Work Item ID field.

Please note that change requests created by the connector are followed by the PT suffix for identification purposes

Open SCSM and you can see that the task is submitted as a Change Request in SCSM.

Refresh Tasks
If the Change Manager in SCSM made any updates into the Change Request in SCSM like the following screenshots,

These changes are reflected back into the project task when the user clicks on Refresh Tasks

button.

Get Tasks
Now lets say that you need to create a new project based on change requests created in SCSM earlier. Just click on Get Tasks button, and then click Find button, Note: you can get the tasks that were created by Microsoft Project only by selecting Project Tasks check box. Now select the tasks and click OK.

Here, Microsoft Project received the Change Requests from SCSM and these requests were assigned as a project tasks, you can make your modifications and save this project or publish the tasks in SCSM if you have the required permissions to change these Change Requests.
