the region, Mirwaiz told a Friday gathering at historic Jamia Masjid here. We believe that situation continues to be bad even today. Those who come from outside and stay for day or two here and move through government machinery and then talk about normalcy, we want to tell them that for god sake talk a common people to gauge his moaning their feelings. There is cosmetic peace in the region held through stick and gun as Jammu and Kashmir has been virtually turned into police state, he said. Expressing concern over continued presence of terrorist safe havens inside Pakistan, the US State Department in its annual report on terrorism asked Pakistan to take action against the group and its other frontal organisation. Despite international condemnation for its November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LT) continued to plan regional operations from within Pakistan. While the Government of Pakistan has banned LeT, the United States continued to urge further action against this group and its front organizations, the State Department said. The potential for WMD trafficking and

proliferation remained of concern in Pakistan due to the porous borders and the difficult security situation. Export Control and Related Border Security Assistance (EXBS) has enabled Pakistani officials to gain expertise in properly classifying items of proliferation concern and learn about export licensing best practices, it said. Despite efforts by Pakistani security forces, al-Qaeda operatives, Afghan militants, foreign insurgents, and Pakistani militants continued to find safe haven in portions of Pakistans Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Khyber Paktunkhwa (KPK), and Baluchistan, the report said. KH News Network Srinagar Aug 19:Strongly condemning custodial killing of an undertrial, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that killing innocent people has become a policy of the coalition regime. Party demanded a high level inquiry from an impartial agency to fix responsibility on those who were responsible for fake encounters and custodial killings in the state. No action has been taken so far in other inquiries ordered by the state government, they said and emphasized on engaging an impartial agency to conduct inquiries of such killings. They regretted that the Government has failed to safeguard life and dignity of the people of this State. They observed that the National Conference led coalition regime was looking helpless in protecting lives of people as killing of innocent citizens has been going unabated since formation of this regime in the State. Killing of one Sarfu Ram, a resident of Camp Khour, who had been arrested few days back, in Miran Sahib Police Station speaks about failure of the state government to protect lives of common citizens, they said and said that killing in an arrested person in the police station reflects prevailing lawlessness in the State.
