FRANCESCA FERRANDO’S “BEAUTIFUL FUCKING SOULS”
A true revelation THE AUTHOR Francesca Ferrando was born in Turin, May 10th 1978. She is a well known writer, journalist and avantguard artist (photographer, bellydancer, musician). She teaches Gender Studies at the University of Turin and gives creative writing classes for the Community of Turin. She is currently enrolled in the PhD Program in Philosophy at the University of Roma Tre. Since September 2008 she has been working as an opinionist for Odeon TV. Through her website www.pressutopia.org, she organizes events such as the “Joy and Sexuality” Festival. She has traveled all over the world, testing the true meaning of freedom.

THE NOVEL Terry, the main character of “Beautiful fucking souls”, is a lazy girl obsessed with gangsta rap. One day she runs away from home, looking for life on the edge: “In a few months I’ve become a thief, a bum, a bitch, a john, a wife, a lesbian, a prisoner... No. I don’t feel bad. Actually, I feel much better than when I left home”. A world of excess, made up of vicious, beastial and divine characters. A hard core trip, where satire, violence and sex melt together. Cutting edge, traumatically sweet, one hundred percent Italian. A captivating spiral in the spirit of Kerouac, Bukowsky and Tarantino. If you are ready, don’t fasten your seat-belts...

WHAT’S UP No room for false morals. Violent, erotic, and ultimately inspirational, “Beautiful fucking souls” marks the literary debut of Francesca Ferrando. The novel, published by Kowalsky (Feltrinelli Group), has already entered the best sellers list. It has been recognized by a wide audience: from your average teenager to famous Italian personalities, including singer Vasco Rossi, film director Tinto Brass and tv journalist Maurizio Costanzo. Due to its success, the book will soon make its transfer to the big screen with Francesca herself as a co-director. The origin of this story, however, is rooted in the underground. The book was rejected from major publishers as “very well written, but too violent for Italian standards”. Not enough to stop Francesca. After having worked on it for six years, she took another two years and published it herself. She decided to go “do-it-yourself” in order to keep the contents untouched. Francesca sold hundreds of copies in the streets of Italy. She was travelling with her novel, infinite energy and the right amount of craziness for people to believe in her. Since then, the novel has made a very strong impact on public opinion and the media. Francesca loves to make art of each moment of her life. The promotion of the book becomes an event for surreal situationalism and unexpected performances. For instance, at Turin’s Bookfest she went around dressed in gold, Cleopatra style, with big dragon feet. She has been on many tv shows to talk and perform. She has several projects connected to her novel: singing songs related to the plot, spoken word and bellydancing. “Beautiful fucking souls” is available under a Creative Commons licence, so that it can be reproduced, photocopied and modified for non commercial reasons.
