Notes (con't) Mary born 1862 Andrew born 1866 Alex McMullen born 1865 adopted James left his mark on Schuylkill County PA. He was a good citizen in his adopted county. He arrived from Ireland abt. 1847 and is 21 years old when he petitions the court in 1850 and is granted citizenship the 13th of September 1852. He answered the call of duty to his new country and enlisted July 2 1863 He served in the Civil War and is listed as serving in Captain Thomas S. Richard's Cavalry Company that defended Pennsylvania on the occasion of Gen. Lee's second invasion, which ended in the battle of Gettysburg in July 1863 (July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg) He lived to a ripe old age of 82 and is buried next to his Mary who also lived to 82. They are buried in the Charles Baber Cemetery in Pottsville, Pa. He and his young family show up in the 1860 census as well as the 1870,1880 and 1900. They stay in Schuylkill County their entire lives, changing addresses a few times. In the 1860 he has two people listed living with his family as Bernard and Jane Kirkpatrick both 70 years of age. It is determined from his death certificate that these would have been his parents. From his lengthy obituary in the Pottsville Republican dated January 16,1908 we learn that he was engaged in the coal shipping business and later owned a stock farm in North Manheim Township. His pride and joy -next to his family - must have been his stallion Hambletonian Chief.

William Henry Kirkpatrick William's name first appears on social security application for James Henry Kirkpatrick. Little is known of his life other than what is stated in his obituary. Miners Journal obits index 1829-1899 lists William H. Kirkpatrick 33 Schuylkill Haven dies 09/23/1889 of consumption. He was an esteemed member of the Patriotic Order of Sons of America- Washington Camp; and his brothers in that organization helped care for him during his year long illness. William was married to Miriam Roan. Records from St. Johns United Church of Christ in Schuylkill Haven show William and Miriam as being members of the church, along with there children James H. and Mary Rebecca.
