"Christ Our Example"
Shepherds Chapel Newsletter #344 June 2007 It is important for us to focus on what it is that Jesus Christ expects of us. Jesus did show us the way. He set the course. God gave us the Chief Corner Stone. This corner stone is the cap stone which completes the very top of the pyramid. That stone is where everything comes together, and the Chief Corner Stone is Jesus Christ. Let's begin our study in I Peter 2:6. Christ is our example.
1 Peter 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.(If you believe on Him, you are going to absorb His Word and His teachings. You won't be confused. You will set Jesus Christ as your example. His example will lead you through hard times. If you will do your best to follow His example, you will always come out a winner.) 1 Peter 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe [he is] precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 1 Peter 2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, [even to them] which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. ( It is sad that Christ becomes a Stone of stumbling, because people won't know the true jesus. Unfortunately, many will be worshipping tha antichrist when the real Messiah returns at the second advent. Many false shepherds are misleading God's sheep. We are given the example after example of the right way in God's Word, but people turn away from those examples and are disobedient.) 1 Peter 2:9 But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: (It is no accident that the United States is the only super power on earth. God promised that He would bless the nation that believes and trusts Him. Skip with me to verse fifteen.) 1 Peter 2:15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:(Truth dispels ignorance and foolishness. With the seal of God in your mind, that is to say His Word, you can put the ignorance of foolish men to silence.) 1 Peter 2:16 As free, and not using [your] liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. (We are free from death, because we have accepted God's salvation, Jesus Christ. We also know that salvation is not a license to commit sin or do evil unto others.) 1 Peter 2:17 Honour all [men]. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 1 Peter 2:18 Servants, [be] subject to [your] masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. ( Don't tear people down. Build them up. Even if they are disobedient, you might have the opportunity to plant a seed of truth that could change their life for the better. Christians should be an example for us. Doing right is contagious.) 1 Peter 2:19 For this [is] thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 1 Peter 2:20 For what glory [is it], if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? But if, when ye do well, and suffer [for it], ye take it patiently, this [is] acceptable with God. (Christians can afford to be more mature than those who are living in the world. Why? Because you
are precious to God. We all receive exactly what we deserve from Him.) 1 Peter 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: (Note the Scripture says "follow His steps", not walk in His steps. The position of Saviour is already taken. But we do have work to do. Follow Christ's example. You can be assured you are doing the will of God, if you do.) 1 Peter 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 1 Peter 2:23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously: (Even Jesus was being delivered up to be crucified, He didn't open His mouth. He trusted God to judge righteously. Do you? Anytime you think you are suffering more than you can bare, think about how much Christ suffered for you on that cross.) 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. (Jesus Christ took the stripes, and we receive the healing. Don't ever forget the awesome price that He paid for your healing. Jesus is your Shepherd, and He is your example. Let's continue our study in the Book of Ezekiel.) Ezekiel 34:1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Ezekiel 34:2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe [be] to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? (The Shepherd, Jesus, feeds the sheep very well. The false shepherds aren't following Christ's example at all. They are too busy taking care of themselves to feed the sheep God's Word.) Ezekiel 34:3 Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: [but] ye feed not the flock.(Understand the sheep are symbolic of God's children. The false shepherds are leaving them naked and hungry.) Ezekiel 34:4 The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up [that which was] broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. (The false shepherds don't teach the people that Christ took the stripes, and we receive the healing. They tear people down by making second-class citizens out of them for falling short, rather than teaching them how to repent and find forgiveness. How would you like to be in their shoes on judgment day?I wouldn't!) Ezekiel 34:5 And they were scattered, because [there is] no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered. Ezekiel 34:6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek [after them].(You are a part of a ministry that is seeking the lost sheep. You are helping to lead the sheep away from the false shepherds and back to God.) Ezekiel 34:7 Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; Ezekiel 34:8 [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because [there was] no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock; (God is
keeping notes. he keeps score. Judgement begins with the shepherds (I Peter 4:17). Ezekiel 34:9 Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; Ezekiel 34:10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. (Today, the mouths of the false shepherds are leading God's children straight to the antichrist with their lies and false teaching. They teach the traditions of men, rather then following Christ's example teaching God's Word.) Ezekiel 34:11 For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, [even] I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. Ezekiel 34:12 As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep [that are] scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. (The cloudy and dark day is the period of time we are in now, that is to say the day of the gentiles. Though others may be lost in the clouds and darkness, we have the Light. The Light is Jesus Christ. He shows us the way by His example.) Ezekiel 34:13 And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country. (Many ask about the "lost tribes of Israel". The ten tribes of Israel have been scattered, but God didn't lose them. he knows exactly where they are, and He will gather them.) Ezekiel 34:14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and [in] a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. (They will feed on the Word of God. In fact, many are being fed the Word of God today, thanks to you involved with this ministry.) Ezekiel 34:15 I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD. Ezekiel 34:16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up [that which was] broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment. (The false shepherds haven't done these things, but God will. And the false shepherds will answer for their deeds. If you are going to be a shepherd, be sure you follow the examle of the Shepherd. In conclusion, let's turn to the Book of John.) John 13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? (When Jesus walked the earth, people wors sandles and their feet got dirty. Jesus utilized this example to show us that when we walk in this world, we are going to get some dirt on us. Spiritually speaking, Jesus Christ is how you get rid of the dirt of this world. Repent.) John 13:13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for [so] I am. John 13:14 If I then, [your] Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.(Be a blessing to a brother or a sister who is lost. Show them how to get rid of the dirt caused by their sins.) John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. John 13:16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. (Don't ever forget Who is in charge. False shepherds act like they are greater than the Master. They get off on ego trips and begin taking advantage of the sheep.)
John 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. (You will be happy, if you follow the example of Christ. You will be richly blessed by your Father. Jesus always did the will of God. When you follow the example of Jesus, you too will be doing the will of God.)
In His Service, Arnold Murray
