Justice Scalia, appointed by President Ronald
Reagan, is the second most senior associate justice of
the Supreme Court of the United States. He was
appointed judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
D.C. Circuit in 1982. Reagan nominated him as an
associate justice, and he took his seat in 1986. The
son of an Italian immigrant, Scalia became the first Roman Catholic to join the
Court since William J. Brennan in 1957. Scalia has an originalist approach to
interpreting the Constitution. He believes the constitution should be
interpreted according to the original intentions of the men who wrote it. He
criticizes the idea of a“living constitution”or the changing of the constitution
to keep up with modern society.

Scheidler is the Pro-Life Action League’s
communications director. He coordinates League
events, including Face the Truth Tours, the fight
against Planned Parenthood in Aurora, Illinois —
called “Ground Zero” by abortion supporters and
opponents alike — and other League protests and
campaigns.He speaks frequently on pro-life activism, marriage, and the family
to audiences across the country.He also handles media relations and oversees
League print and digital publications. Scheidler is the oldest of Joe and Ann
Scheidler’s seven children. He holds a bachelor’s degree fromthe University of
Illinois and a master’s degree in English studies fromthe University of Georgia.

Ruse has headed the Catholic Family and Human
Rights Institute (C-FAM) since shortly after its
creation in 1997. As C-FAM’s president, Ruse has
helped negotiate numerous international documents.
He founded the International Organizations
Research Group, a research institute connected to
C-FAMthat publishes scholarly research on organizations such as UNICEF, the
U.N. Population Fund, and the World Bank. Ruse has briefed members of the
House and Senate on U.N. matters, as well as officials from the White House,
the National Security Council, journalists, Church, and NGOleaders fromaround
the world. Ruse has delivered lectures around the world on U.N. matters. He is
a Knight in the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

Peroutka is chairman of the National Pro-Life
Action Center, the only pro-life initiative on Capitol
Hill. Peroutka founded National Pro-Life Radio, the
nation’s only full time pro-life radio network. It
broadcast on two radio stations, XM satellite radio,
and online. He hosts three talk radio programs. He
co-foundedThe Institute on the Constitution, an outreach programdesigned
to reinstill the precepts of Constitutional government. He serves on the board
of the Conservative Caucus and of Pro-Life Maryland. He also founded the
annual National Pro-Life Appreciation Dinner. Cardinal Keeler awarded
Peroutka the John Paul II Pro-Life Medal in 2006. Thomas More College

Father Pavoneis national director of Priests for Life
and one of the most prominent pro-life leaders in
the nation. He has traveled the world teaching on
the sanctity of human life. He conducts seminars on
pro-life strategy and regularly speaks at pro-life
gatherings. Father Pavone has appeared on Larry
King Live, Good Morning America, The O’Reilly Factor, and others. He is a former
member of the Pontifical Council for the Family. In 1999, DailyCatholic.org
named Fr. Pavone among the Top 100 Catholics of the Century.
janet morana
Morana is executive director of Priests for Life and
co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness
Campaign, the world’s largest mobilization of
women and men who have lost children to abortion.
She has traveled the world giving pro-life training
seminars for clergy and laity, including at pontifical
universities in Rome. Morana helped coordinate relationships between
pro-life organizations and the Vatican as well as the White House. Earlier this
year, Legatus presented her with the Cardinal John O’Connor Pro-Life Award.
hadley p. arkes
Hadley P. Arkes is a political scientist and the
Edward N. Ney Professor of Jurisprudence and
American Institutions at Amherst College. Arkes
helped craft legislation such as the Born-Alive
Infants Protection Act, signed into law by President
Bush in 2002. Though he is Jewish, his arguments
against abortion rely heavily on Catholic philosophers such as Thomas Aquinas.
He is considered one of the leading pro-life intellectuals in the United States
and contributes to several American conservative journals, including National
Review, the Claremont Review of Books, and First Things. He has taught at
Amherst College since 1966 with students including David Eisenhower,
grandson of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Tom Davis, a Republican
congressman fromVirginia.
margaret (peggy) hartshorn
Hartshorn became involved in the pro-life
movement when she heard about Roe v. Wade in
1973. She and her husband Mike began housing
pregnant women in their home before establishing
a pregnancy resource center. She is president of
Heartbeat International, a pregnancy services organization with 1,100
affiliates in 43 countries. She advised the Reagan administration in the Office
of Population Affairs. Hartshorn is a member of Legatus’ board of governors.

Archbishop Burke is the Prefect of the Supreme
Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura at theVatican.He
was ordained to the priesthood in Rome by Pope
Paul VI in 1975. One of his first assignments was
teaching religion in La Crosse, Wisc. He became the
first American to serve as Defender of the Bond of
the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, the church’s highest court.
He is a member of the Congregation for the Clergy. He has previously served
as archbishop of St. Louis and bishop of La Crosse, Wisc.

Father Coughlin was ordained in 1960 for the
Archdiocese of Chicago. In 1969, he was appointed
the first director of the Office for Divine Worship. In
the 1980s, he studied Eastern andWestern religions,
lived withTrappist monks in Kentucky, worked with
the Missionaries of Charity in India, and served as
scholar in residence at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. He
served as the Chicago archdiocesan vicar for priests from 1995-2000. He was
sworn in as the 59th chaplain for the 106th Congress on March 23, 2000.

million miles as a pro-life missionary and visited

abortion mills, sidewalk counseling and the establishment of a crisis pregnancy
center across the street from an abortion mill. He received Legatus’ Cardinal
John O’Connor Pro-Life Award in 2006.

John Boehner (R-OH) has served as a U.S.
Representative fromOhio’s 8th congressional district
since 1990. Boehner was elected House Majority
Leader in 2006.Later that year, he was elected House

111th Congress. His efforts include providing accountability and choice in

Planned Parenthood announced plans in 1998 to
build an abortion clinic in his hometown of College
Station, Texas. He co-founded Coalition for Life and
served as its chairman for three years. He began to

Now Coalition for Life’s executive director, Bereit has appeared on ABC’s
Nightline, Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s radio show, and others. Bereit is the national
