Ki Teitzei 2011

This week’s Torah Portion, Ki Teitzei – “When You Go Out”, covers Deuteronomy 21:10-25:19. It covers quite a lot of ground in fact it lists no less than 72 of the Torah’s 613 commandments! This is the most found in one portion out of the entire list of the parshahs. It seems to be a list of disconnected laws, yet there is always order and purpose in the Torah, so we now must look to find the thread! By looking at some of the numbers that are attached to this portion, the connections are found. Deuteronomy 21:10 Goest Forth: Strong’s #3318 yatsa’ ‫ יצא‬to go out, come out, exit, go forth; to be brought out of, lead forth, deliver from, to come or go forth with purpose or for result o Here the ‫ י‬is dropped for the ‫ ת‬prefix = you will, she will, they will o ‫ = צ‬the name of this letter comes from the root meaning to hunt, catch, or capture; formed in the shape of a fishing hook; Jeremiah 16:16 – “Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith Yahweh, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.” The ‫ צ‬is formed similar to the ‫ א‬and therefore represents the mate of the ‫( א‬Messiah) → the Bride of Messiah o ‫ = א‬the Strong One, Messiah This word becomes a prophetical statement of future events (Tav prefix)! She will/You will (the Bride) be fished for and hunted for. Why? In order to be brought forth and delivered for the purpose and result of being the mate of the Messiah/Strong One! Now to get to the numbers that elaborate and expand our view, helping us to prepare and understand for when we “go forth”. The two that we will look at are 49, this is the 49th Torah portion of the year and 72, there are 72 commandments listed in this portion. 49 → this is a significant number because it comes right before 50, 50 = the Jubilee/Yovel (a time when captives are set free, debts are forgiven, redemption takes place). 49 then points towards the preparation for the Jubilee and being right on the cusp of this taking place. Leviticus 25:8 – “And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.” Number: Strong’s #5608 caphar ‫ ספר‬to count, recount, relate, to rehearse, to declare; to inscribe letters on a stone, hence to write 1

*Points to a rehearsal of something, something being written, declared, and recounted to us. *Notice the word play between caphar ‫ ספר‬and kaphar ‫ כפר‬to cover, to purge, to make atonement, make reconciliation → In preparation of the coming days, we are given a rehearsal that relates something to us about our covering and atonement! The 2 letter root of this word caphar ‫ ספר‬is #5592 caph ‫ סף‬a spreading out, basin, goblet, bowl, threshold, sill, doorkeeper; it describes the basin of blood that was applied to the houses in Egypt on Passover (Exodus 12:22). 49 is also the gematria of ‫ 'טל‬lamb, Aries the Zodiacal sign of the lamb. *Connects us to the feast of Passover and the blood covering provided by the lamb! Yet there is also a connection to Yom Kippur because the Jubilee is sounded then (49 leads up to 50 – Jubilee). There is also a covering alluded to at Yom Kippur!

Passover & Yom Kippur
In order to understand the covering alluded to at Kippur we must look at the other number associated with this Torah portion – 72 (72 commandments). 72 is the gematria of Strong’s #5645 ‘ab ‫ עב‬darkness, cloud, thicket; an architectural term referring to a threshold or steps. 1st reference is Exodus 19:9 – “And Yahweh said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told he words of the people unto Yahweh.” Another term for cloud is Strong’s #6051 ‘anan ‫ ענן‬cloud, cloudy, cloudmass →The cloud plays an important role for Yom Kippur and acts as a covering just as the blood acts a covering at Passover! Leviticus 16:13 – “And he shall put the incense upon the fire before Yahweh, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that [is] upon the testimony, that he die not:” Before we can really understand the significance of the cloud as a covering, we need to go back and look at what it represents and is connected with. o Psalm 18:11 – “He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion (sukkah ‫ )סכה‬round about him [were] dark waters [and] thick clouds of the skies.” o Job 36:29 – “Also can [any] understand the spreadings of the clouds, [or] the noise of his tabernacle?” o Deuteronomy 31:15 – “And Yahweh appeared in the Tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: and the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the Tabernacle”. 2

*Again and again the Glory and presence of Yahweh is associated with the presence of a cloud and that it is part of His sukkah – bedchamber/intimate place! What is the difference between the blood covering and the covering represented by the cloud? Blood (#1818) dam ‫ דם‬blood; gematria = 44 Cloud (#6051) ‘anan ‫ ענן‬cloud; gematria = 170 170 – 44 = 126, same as be’eden ‫ עדן ב‬in Eden → Its at Yom Kippur that we are closest to the type of relationship that was found in the Garden of Eden! At Yom Kippur we see the allusion to the covering of the cloud, the glory of Yahweh and the vessel of His light! At the fall, Adam loses this and is given the covering of blood. A cloud of incense is the covering in the Most Holy Place. Incense: Strong’s #7004 qetoreth ‫ קטרת‬incense, smoke, odor of burning sacrifice; from #7000 qatar ‫ קטר‬to shut in, enclose, join →‫ קט‬as a prefix means small especially in regarding time, as in “very soon” or “in a very little while”. At Yom Kippur we are reminded that very soon, in a very little while, we will be joined once again with our Groom! →Added to this root is the letter ‫ ר‬which means head, beginning; the head (rosh) is connected to the idea of counting or caphar – to count, rehearse, declare, or write; (Numbers 1:2 – “Take ye the sum/rosh of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number/caphar of [their] names, every male by their polls;”); remember it deals with a rehearsal where a covering is declared or written →At Yom Kippur we are reminded that soon this covering will be declared over us again, soon it will be written upon us; just as the bow was set/written in the clouds so it will be upon us! Many other clues can be found within the Hebrew language pointing towards the connection between the blood covering which we now have and the covering represented by the cloud/Glory which we lost but will have access to once again. o Incense = Qetoreth ‫ & קטרת‬the word “coats” (Gen. 3:21 – coats of skins) #3801 kethoneth play between the two!

Both house the light in order to protect it! Remember, “the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that [is] upon the testimony, that he die not:” – a specific reference to Aaron: Strong’s #175 ‘Aharown ‫ אהרון‬light bringer; the cloud protects the light of Yahweh! Genesis 3:21 – “coats of skins” – Skins: Strong’s #5785 ‘owr ‫ עור‬skin, hide; play on words with #216 ‘owr ‫ אור‬light → Cloud protected the light, now the blood covering (kethoneth) protects the light of Yahweh! *Science has proven that blood is actually congealed light (light slowed down). The incense is further connected with the light in Exodus 30:7-8 – “And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it. And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before Yahweh throughout your generations.” Dresseth: Strong’s #3190 yatab ‫ יטב‬to be good, be pleasing, be well, be glad *Cognate of this word (by switching the ‫ ט‬for the #3488 (‫ ת‬yethiyb ‫ יתב‬to sit, to dwell; corresponds to #3427 yashab ‫ ישב‬to dwell, remain, sit, abide, to marry →Yashab ‫ ישב‬contains the 2 letter root ‫ שב‬to return! Lighteth: Strong’s #5927 ‘alah ‫ עלה‬to go up, ascend, climb *Remember the term ‘ab (#5645) ‫ עב‬cloud, steps Every time the Menorah was lighted and the cloud of incense ascends, it was a rehearsal for the time when we would return and once again dwell in marriage with our Groom! The steps were ascended! More clues come from the word cloud itself. Cloud: Strong’s #6051 ‘anan ‫ ענן‬cloud, cloudy mass; from #6049 ‘anan 1 ‫ )ענן‬to make appear, produce, bring (clouds) 2) to practice soothsaying, conjure, enchanter, diviner, fortuneteller → it’s a similar meaning to #5172 nachash ‫ נחש‬to practice divination, observe signs, fortuneteller – the root of the word for serpent! The reason the cloud was lost/removed! ‘Anan ‫ ענן‬can also be etymologically connected to the word for Garden! Garden: Strong’s #1588 gan ‫ גן‬garden or enclosure; from #1598 ganan

‫גנן‬

to defend, cover, surround *Both share the 2 letter root of ‫ = נן‬Nun, seed, life o One was meant to shield and cover the seed (ganan); the other to reveal (‘anan starts with the ‫ ע‬to perceive, see, understand)! Though ‫ ג‬and ‫ ע‬are not interchangeable letters, both letters share the common factor of being alternates with the letter ‫ ק‬the letter associated with kodesh, holy ‫ קדש‬the very place (Most Holy Place) which acts as the covered gan/garden, where the Bride has a chance to again perceive, see, and understand her Groom and receive his seed/life! *All of these clues come together to teach us that the cloud indeed represents the relationship found in Eden (the Garden of Delight) and that as we put His Word in (Light) each step takes us closer back to this. Tying this back into the Torah portion – the goal of coming out is to be restored to this type of relationship! This is the 49th Torah portion, 49 is the gematria of Aholiab, the chief assistant during the construction of the Tabernacle. Aholiab: Strong’s #171 ‘Oholiy’ab ‫ אהליאב‬Father’s tent →From #168 ‘ohel ‫ אהל‬tent, from #166 ‘ahal ‫ אהל‬to be clear, shine; notice that attached to ‘ahal ‫ אהל‬is ‫ אב‬ab, a cognate of ‫ עב‬ab thick clouds; the picture taken from this term can also be the tent where the light shines in the thick clouds! Genesis 9:13 – “I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.” → The tabernacle becomes the same picture of the rainbow covenant! Who is the one that is brought forth (goes forth) in order to come to this tent? The Eshet yefat-to’ar/A woman of “beautiful form” who goes through a very specific process of preparation (one that corresponds in significance to the preparation for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement) Deuteronomy 21:11-13 Home: Strong’s #8432 tavek ‫ תוך‬midst, middle, from an unused root meaning to sever →Describes the location of the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden Word Picture: ‫ = תו‬the letter Tav, a mark, signature, sign, covenant, being the last letter of the alphabet it leads us back to the Aleph (Strong One), 5

back to the beginning ‫ = ך‬Kaf sofit when at the end of the word indicates possession The Bridal candidate who is brought out of captivity is brought to the place where she can possess the Covenant offered by the Tree of Life and have it marked/written upon her heart in preparation of her being led to the Aleph/Strong One!!
