A Letter from the Board of Directors

Dear Loved Ones, It is our pleasure to bring to you, the first National newsletter of Mu Epsilon Theta. We hope to keep you informed about our sororitys goals, accomplishments and the happenings of each chapter through the Onyx Newsletters. As we begin our term as Mu Epsilon Thetas National Board of Directors, we are excited to share with you some of the goals we hope to accomplish these next two years. Our first priority is to re-establish Mu Epsilon Theta as a non-profit corporation, unify both chapters and establish a relationship with our alumnae. We hope these initial objectives will be the stepping-stone in pursuing our long-term goal of establishing a new chapter. We are also honored and blessed to be planning our 25th Anniversary, taking place this upcoming January 27-29, 2012. Along with the sororitys anniversary, the Beta chapter will be celebrating their 15th anniversary. Details on the weekends events will be sent out soon and we would love it if you joined us in celebrating this grand event. We look forward to meeting you at an alumnae event in the near future and if you would like to share any news with your sisters, please contact us at communications@muepsilontheta.org. Alpha Chapter
The sisters of Mu Epsilon Theta Alpha Chapter are excited to begin a new year! This upcoming fall, the ladies will welcome the Alpha Lambda class into their sisterhood. Along with the traditional events taking place in the fall, the actives look forward to a reunion with their alumnae as they begin planning for their 25th anniversary. Their fundraisers for the semester will benefit the University Catholic Center, and they will be hosting one service project for each month. These include, Marathon Kids, Habitat for Humanity, Orange Santa and Micah 6. The ladies know this will be a busy, yet great year and are eager to work with their Executive Board in strengthening their spiritual, service and sisterhood pillars.

We may not have it all together but, together we have it all

Beta Chapter
Mu Epsilon Theta is alive and kicking at Texas State University! This semester they will welcome twenty-five girls into the Rho class . RUSH week is coming to a close, and they have a very energetic group of soon-to-be pledges who are ready to see what the sorority will bring for them. As actives, they have chosen the Boys and Girls Club as their charity and are very excited to mentor kids returning to the Boys and Girls organization. They have a great Executive Board, who have already lead the sorority in a great direction and a lively group of officers who are excited for a fun, faith filled semester of activities and service projects. Although the fall semester is always busy, the women of Mu Epsilon Theta at Texas State University are ready to make this a successful year!

25 years of sisterhood
Established in 1987, Mu Epsilon Theta has become a staple of Spiritual Sisterhood for many young women that have passed in and out of The University of Texas at Austin and at Texas State University. This coming January 17, 2012 will mark our 25th year as a recognized organization that began at UT. To celebrate the Alphas 25th and Betas 15th anniversaries, both chapters are planning a celebratory weekend to take place on January 27-29, 2012 with all alumnae, actives, family and friends. Details on the weekend events and formal to come soon.

Why Mu Epsilon Theta?

One of our founders explains how METheta came about! Why Mu Epsilon Theta? Thats a questions that comes up in almost every conversation I have with those inside and outside the Greek system. Well I only have 175 words to say this so lets see if I can reach back into my college days and tell the story in Cliffs Notes style. Are those still around or did I just date myself? The simplest yet most complicated answer is that Maria, Evelyn and I couldnt find a sorority that best fit our needs, personalities and pocketbooks. We wanted to be part of the Greek life so after lots of research and through our friendship we quickly realized that we could put something very special together, and share it with others.

Our Strength is from Above

Mu Epsilon Theta was then formed based on our focus on Faith, Education and Leadership within our friendship. Evelyn consistently reminded us that faith in God, in our Catholic traditions should always come first. Maria was the living example of why we were in college. She always made sure we prioritized our studies. My contribution was to organize our gifts of faith, education and leadership into one mission. And thats the short story of how and why Mu Epsilon Theta began. Patricia Perez-Wagner

We love our Parents

Parents, we are so happy to have you a part of our organization. Without your continued support, we would not be able to have the many blessings we have today. Over the years many of you have seen what the organization has done for your daughter, but we are also thankful for the talents, blessings and faith that she brings to our sisterhood. Thank you for raising such wonderful young women. We look forward to meeting you at one of the following Parents Weekends!
