Boot off a Live CD. You can either try booting into rescue mode (http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howtoboot-ubuntu-linux-rescue-mode/) and try repairing your system or you can try and do a re-install but don't format the file systems so you won't overwrite any data you've written to disk. Either w...

At what point does it panic? During boot off Live CD? What Live CD are you booting off of? When I am in grub, I select the second option, and then the log reads kernel panic. grub of your install or the live cd? What can I do with my data from the live cd. How can I save it. And how can I save the apache settings and things like that. Please help me. If you either of you can solve this you can get 4 bitcoins if you so please. Grub of my install

Use the Live CD rescue mode, not repair mode. Okay, so how can I mount my second HD and how can I keep my configurations from my server applications What partitions does it have? You can look at HDs with 'ls /dev/sd*' Just copy the data to a USB stick or enable networking and scp it to another host

I am not booted. they are 2 different internal hds And do you know what upstart might have to do with this you'd mount it with 'mkdir /mnt/disk1; mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/disk1' to mount partition 1 of disk 1. I removed upstart and then this happened

Then copy your data off and then try to repair your system Yep. how can I make apt-get install apply to the install, not the ram disk In recue mode you choose to mount the OS Choose this option then on the command line run: chroot /mnt/sysimage; apt-get install upstart
"chroot" = "change root of this system"? You'll probably want to copy your config files off to a USB stick or something before you do yep YAH! I have learned my lesson this time. BACKUP BACKUP everything.

Just to be safe that if you clobber your system any more you still have your data Of course. Thank you so much!!!!! np
