PROMOTE MORE JOB CREATION
Mentor has the lowest unemployment rate in Ohio for a city of its size; this has not occurred by chance. I have helped create city tax policies that were instrumental in landing those jobs. Avery Dennison and Steris are recent examples; other smaller manufacturers have also located or expanded in Mentor. I will work to develop new incentives to create and retain good jobs.
CONTINUOUS DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS' . ow
Mother Nature is rewriting the record books. Despite 4.6 million dollars invested in Ward 1 Storm Water improvements, increasingly violent storms are overwhelming the system. A comprehensive review of our storm water system is in process so we can increase capacity to discharge these increasing volumes of water. For years our system worked efficiently, but shifting weather patterns now force new investment in our infrastructure.
The. State of Ohio is threatening to take over the collection of Municipal Income Taxes. The State will "charge" us to collect our own money and I fear the next step will then be to "share" our revenue with other communities. We cannot accept losing control over our primary revenue source. I have met with our State Representative and will continue to fight to stop this potential tax grab.
