Diesel engines: turn key to ON, when preheating control indicator ! goes out, turn key to START and release it. (Preheating control indicator ! illuminates in instrument cluster only if outside temperature is low). Key returns automatically to ON position when released. Start attempts should not last longer than 15 seconds. If engine does not start, wait 10 seconds before repeating starting procedure. The increased engine speed automatically returns to normal idling speed as the engine temperature rises. Drive at a moderate speed, especially in cold weather, until normal engine operating temperatures have been reached.

Note: some items described may be optional 3.

Electric windows: Drivers window is operated via switch in drivers door. For incremental operation, briefly pull or press switch. For automatic opening or closing, pull or press switch for longer. Pull or press again to stop movement.

The passenger door windows are operated by a switch in each door or the respective switch in the drivers door. To open window, press switch and to close, pull up switch. The window stops when the switch is released. The rear windows do not open fully.

Unlock and open tailgate: Press button q on remote control unit, - or - To unlock from inside the vehicle, press central locking switch m in drivers door. Tailgate is unlocked together with doors and can be opened by operating button above number plate and lifting tailgate.

Starting the engine: Manual transmission in neutral, depress clutch and footbrake, (automatic transmission 3 in P or N), do not accelerate. Petrol engines: turn key to START and release it.

Releasing the handbrake: Raise lever slightly, press lock button and lower lever fully. Handbrake release is audibly confirmed. To reduce operating forces, depress footbrake at the same time.

Close and lock tailgate: There is a handle on the inside of the tailgate to assist when closing. Close tailgate by pushing it down so it latches securely. To lock tailgate, together with the doors: Press button p on remote control unit - or To lock from inside the vehicle, press central locking switch m in drivers door.

Slide / tilt sunroof 3: To open: Press switch rearwards, it opens automatically unless switch is pressed again or released. To close: Press and hold switch forwards. Release when desired position is reached. To tilt: Press and hold switch upwards. Release when desired position is reached.

Bonnet release: To open bonnet, pull release lever located below instrument panel. The bonnet will then be unlocked and will partially open. Return release lever to its original position. Do not pull release lever while the vehicle is moving.

Manual transmission: 1 to 5 = 1st to 5th gear R = Reverse gear Only engage reverse gear when the vehicle is stationary.

Automatic transmission 3: Starting is only possible in P or N. To move from P or N; switch on ignition, depress footbrake and press selector lever button. To engage P or R; press selector lever button. P: Only with vehicle stationary, first apply handbrake. R: Only with vehicle stationary. To open completely, locate safety catch on underside of bonnet, push catch upwards and lift bonnet gently. The bonnet is held open automatically. To close bonnet, lower it gradually and allow it to fall into lock under its own weight.

Refuelling: Press button q on remote control unit, - or - press central locking switch m in drivers door to unlock tank flap. Open tank flap, unlock filler cap by turning it anticlockwise, remove and place in holder on inside of tank flap.

Refuelling (continued): Fuel tank has a limiting system which prevents overfilling. Before refuelling, switch off engine and any heating systems with combustion chambers. Switch off mobile phones. To close, replace filler cap and turn clockwise until several clicks are heard, close tank flap and wipe off any overflowing fuel immediately. Petrol engines - use unleaded fuel only. Diesel engines - use diesel fuel meeting specifications of DIN EN 590. Fuel tank capacity - 65 litres. Engine oil: Check every 300 miles or prior to long journeys. Important: It is the owners responsibility to maintain the correct level of an appropriate quality oil in the engine.

Automatic transmission 3, Manual mode: Move selector lever out of position D (to the left) into manual gate, then forwards or backwards. + Shift to a higher gear - Shift to a lower gear Tip selector lever in the appropriate direction. It then returns to centre position. Therefore, do not use the system if there are people in the vehicle. The doors cannot be unlocked from inside. Vehicle security

Automatic transmission 3, Winter programme: In the event of difficulties starting-off on icy and slippery surfaces, press WINTER (or n) button. Vehicle sets off in 3rd gear to reduce slipping and loss of traction.

Unlocking: Press q button on remote control unit - or To unlock from inside the vehicle, press central locking switch m in drivers door. The doors, tailgate and tank flap are unlocked.

Locking: Press p button on remote control unit - or To lock from inside the vehicle, close doors and tailgate and press central locking switch m in drivers door. The doors, tailgate and tank flap are locked.

Front seat adjustment: Pull handle, slide seat, release handle. Never adjust seats whilst driving. They could move in an uncontrolled manner when the handle has been pulled.

Adjusting front seat backrest: Lift release lever on outboard side of seat. Move backrest to suit seating position and lock in position when lever is released. Do not lean on seat backrest whilst adjusting it.

Adjusting the lumbar support 3: Turn handwheel on inboard side of seat. Adjust lumbar support to suit personal requirements.

Adjusting interior mirror: Swivel mirror housing. Swivel lever 3 on underside of the mirror housing to reduce dazzle at night. In vehicles with automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror 3: dazzle is automatically reduced.

Adjusting exterior electric mirrors 3: Move selector switch to L or R (for left-hand or right-hand mirror): Four-way switch adjusts the corresponding mirror. Fold in exterior mirrors: Manually: Press lightly. Electrically 3: Press button n and both mirrors will fold in. Press n again to fold mirrors back to the driving position before starting-off.

Switching between dipped beam and main beam: Main beam = Push stalk forwards Dipped beam = Pull stalk back towards steering wheel Control indicator P illuminates in instrument cluster with main beam on.

Headlight flash: Pull stalk towards steering wheel to operate headlight flash. When released, stalk will spring back to rest position.

Operating turn signals: Upwards = Right turn Downwards = Left turn When steering wheel is turned back, turn signals are automatically cancelled and stalk returns to rest position.

Adjusting seat height 3: Raise or lower lever on outboard side of seat to raise or lower the seat position. Lever pumping action upwards: raises seat downwards: lowers seat

Adjusting head restraint height: Press release button, adjust height to suit personal requirements then release. Pull head restraint up to raise. Push down while pressing the release button to lower head restraint. The middle of the head restraint should be at eye level.

Steering wheel adjustment: Move lever down, adjust height and distance, move lever up and engage. Adjust steering wheel only when vehicle is stationary and steering column lock is released. Push lever firmly upwards to ensure steering wheel is locked in position.

Light switch: 0 Off 8 Parking lights 9 Dipped or main beam > Front fog lights 3 (push) r Fog tail light (push)

Headlight range adjustment q 3: With dipped beam switched on, adjust headlight range to suit vehicle load. In vehicles with Xenon headlights 3, the range of the headlights is adjusted automatically based on vehicle load.

Hazard warning lights: On = Press Off = Press again Operational with ignition on or off. Control indicator in the button flashes when the hazard warning lights are on.

Horn j: Press either side of the steering wheel to activate the horn. The horn will sound regardless of the starter switch position.

Windscreen wiper: Move stalk upwards O = Off $ = Timed interval wipe % = Slow & = Fast Press stalk down from position O: Single swipe.

Fitting seat belt: Draw seat belt smoothly from inertia reel, guide over shoulder and engage in buckle. The belt must not be twisted at any point. The lap belt must lie snugly against body. Seat backrests must not be tilted back too far (approx. 25 max.). To release belt, press red button on belt buckle.

Seat belt height adjustment: Squeeze release buttons together and slide adjuster up or down to desired position. Check sliding height adjuster is latched into position by attempting to move it down without squeezing release buttons. Do not adjust height whilst driving.

Seat position: Adjust drivers seat such that, with the driver sitting upright, the steering wheel is held in the area of its upper spokes with the drivers arms slightly bent. Push front passengers seat as far back as possible. Important: Do not sit nearer than 10 inches (25 cm) from steering wheel, to permit safe airbag deployment.

Automatic dipped beam activation 3: Turn light switch to AUTO position: Dipped beam illuminates automatically when the engine is running, depending on outside light conditions. For reasons of safety, the light switch should always remain in the AUTO position. To ensure correct operation, do not cover the light sensor on top of the instrument panel.

Fog lights: Front fog lights 3: Press >, > illuminates in instrument cluster. Press again to turn off. Ignition and headlights must be switched on. Fog tail light: Press r, r illuminates in instrument cluster. Press again to turn off. Ignition must be switched on with light switch in position 9 (or 8 with front fog lights switched on).

Instrument illumination k, information display illumination: Illuminates when ignition is switched on. Brightness can be adjusted when the exterior lights are on: Turn wheel to the right or left until desired brightness is obtained.

Operating windscreen and headlight wash systems 3: Pull stalk towards steering wheel. Wash fluid is sprayed onto the windscreen. The headlight wash system is operated when the headlights are on. Wash fluid is sprayed onto the headlights. In vehicles with rain sensor 3, keep sensor area clean by operating wash system regularly.

Tailgate wash and wipe system: Wiper on = Push stalk forwards Wiper off = Pull stalk back towards steering wheel Wash = Press and hold button Tailgate wiper operates automatically when windscreen wiper is operating and reverse gear has been selected 3.

Child restraint systems 3: No child restraint system may be installed to the front passengers seat. Danger to life! Child restraint systems may only be fitted to the outboard rear seats. See Owners Manual for permissible options for fitting child restraints and manufacturers instructions for fitting and use.
