A sorry state

A new blanket report on the state of Canadian health and wealth spells out nothing but bad news this year. Canada's Vital Signs, an annual report card from Community Foundations of Canada, suggests we getting deeper in debt, we're fatter than ever and young people are having trouble finding jobs, just to hit a few of the lowlights. According to the report, national obesity rates continue to rise, with 18.1% of Canadian adults describing themselves as obese, up 2.8 points from 2003. The estimated related costs of our widening waistbands is $4.6 to $7.1 billion each year, the report said. Personal bankruptcies have increased 23.4% in 2010, however business bankruptcies have been cut by more than half. Canadian youth are also having a hard time finding work, with a 16% unemployment rate, the report stated. "When I see these numbers I think about young people in our communities and the future we're creating for them,"
