My new computers are Windows XP instead of Vista. Why?

Computers acquired via Strategic Sourcing purchase or TECH|XL lease have a standard image that reflects tested functional configuration within the CPS network environment. That includes:
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Software: Office 2007 Professional Service Pack 2, which includes: Word Excel PowerPoint Access NOTE: Outlook and Publisher are NOT loaded on the CPS Base Image. (They can be installed from the CPSCommon folder on the disk.) Internet Explorer 7 Java Runtime 6 Update 5 and Environment SE1.14.2_12 Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1.3 Trend Micro Antivirus Software OfficeScan 8.0 Windows Media Player 11 Macromedia Flash Player 10.0.12.36 Macromedia Shockwave 11 Apple Quick Time 7.5.5

This computer has Office 2007?! Where are the menus?

Office 2007 has been licensed as part of the CPS Campus agreement. There are help packages available within the software, online training, and the 3-EXCL Service Desk.

Why cant I log in with the office account?

All new PCs on the CPS network should allow users to log on with the same username and password they can use to access their email. Out of the box CPS computers still include a school account but staff should use their individual credentials in accordance with good security practices. Logging in with a local account such as office or school is generally discouraged.

Why is my username always blank at the login screen?

Blanking the last user logged into the system is a good security practice. This setting has been implemented to enhance computer security.

Something isnt working correctly on this new PC.

Contact the Service Desk at 773-553-3925 (3-EXCL from a CPS extension) and an agent will help you determine the issue with your TECH|XL leased or Strategically Sourced equipment.

My new computers are joined to the INSTR Domain. Why?

CPS maintains live data via information systems such as PeopleSoft HR and IMPACT to automatically manage user accounts. INSTR offers benefits such as: 1) Single account & password usage by staff and students. 2) Centralized creation and lifecycle management of staff and student accounts. 3) Districtwide standardization of computer configuration. 4) Available customizable template for simplified management and deployment of network resources including Group Policy, Logon Scripts, shared printers, and serverbased user home folder allowing universal "My Documents" access from any networked computer at the school. (This requires a local school server.) 5) Skilled and professional support for accessing CPS network resources via 3EXCL Service Desk. INSTR Domain Structure
