APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN

Electricians install, alter, repair, maintain, calibrate, and operate electrical systems in any premise, place, building or structure. They ensure that all work is done to code and standards. Employment may be via contractors, maintenance departments, or they may be self-employed. Electricians interpret drawings and electrical code specifications at construction sites for their site specific work.

Duties:
• • • • Assists a skilled Electrician with materials, equipment, and tools at jobsites String overhead wires and cables and in install underground conduit and wire Train in the installation, maintenance, and repair of wiring systems, fixtures and electric or electronic equipment Be efficient, decrease turnaround times, and work cooperatively to provide quality, seamless customer service

SKILLs:
• • • • • Learn the practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the trade Learn occupational hazards of the trade and necessary safety precautions Compare, or monitor data ensuring compliance with operating/safety standards Use calibrated instruments to measure electrical current and voltages Draw and interpret graphic instructions (blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts)

EDUCATION:
• Some experience as a general construction worker is benficial • An apprenticeship as an electrician is required

SALARY: $34,000 to $84,000

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Electricians work in the areas of installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair, as well as analyzing and troubleshooting a variety of electrical circuits, equipment and systems. Construction and Maintenance Electrician is a compulsory certified trade regulated by the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act. A person working in this trade must hold a valid Certificate of Qualification or be registered as an apprentice.

THE FOLLOWING ARE 3 SIMPLE WAYS OF GETTING STARTED IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY:

You can begin by applying for a job directly in the Civil Construction Industry. Once you begin working with a Construction Company or Contractor you will quickly gain the necessary skills needed to advance yourself through in-house, work-as-you-learn training. You can enrol in a University, Community College or a Private Technical School to study and prepare yourself for a Career in Civil Construction. All of this information may be found through our website. You can get started through an apprenticeship program by combining on the job training with technical in-class training gaining experience and increased responsibility. You can work in the industry, get paid and work towards earning credits.
