Winter Tale’s Summary: Act III, Scene I-II-III Act III Scene I and Scene II are treating the

same matter, Hermione’s trial and Leontes final resolution to whether she is innocent or guilty. It starts when Dion and Cleomenes came back mumbling about the message they brought back from Dolphi; the message which came from the gods, specifically Apollo and his famous assertive Oracle. He decided to bring Apollo’s answer so his wife could have a fair trial since he was being the judge of the same trial. Leontes had his wife imprisoned because he felt betrayed and backstabbed, and once she came in front of him that anger remained untouched and no matter what proof they brought him, he would not believe her so easily. Once they come back Hermione is accused by her husband of being guilty in fact of adultery. She gives him a long speech about why she hasn’t betrayed him and why he is the one overdoing the topic and causing a tantrum for nothing when Camillo has been his friend for so long and he knows him better than anyone. When the kings come back, they bring Apollo’s word in the unbroken envelope and open it in front of Leontes for him to see that I has not been faked or written on. The words from Apollo where as this: “Hermione is chaste," it reports, "Polixenes blameless, Camillo a true subject, Leontes a jealous tyrant, his innocent babe truly begotten, and the king shall live without an heir if that which is lost be not found”. When Leontes hears this, his immense ego does not let him accept this as a unique and simple truth; he was wrong. So being a king is hard, and despite that he thinks his wife is cheating on him, then he imprisons her and then he’s wrong. So he decides to defy Apollo and tells the whole court that those words from the sacred Oracle are just meaninglessly false. A this instance a servant comes and tells the king that Mamillius has died and as the words said he will have indeed no heir for his kingdom, at least not with him in the power. Hermione faints from the news and is carried by her ladies into another room where she dies from sadness and betrayal, leaving Paulina to give the news to the kings and leaving Leontes with no hope at all but punishment for his sins. In Scene III the topic changes a bit when Antigonus carries his baby infant Perdita (which was named after his dream with the already death Hermione) and leaves her in the woods covered with precious jewelry and treasures and leaves a little note with the infants name. He is chased by a bear and is killed leaving the baby to its own fate. A man and his son find the kid and raise her as part of their family with the accorded name of Perdita.
