Purpose of testing

The increase on learners assigned to take higher grade over a


period, conflating with academic standards in making important
decisions.

Group of aptitude tests with the aim to perform the same


function.

3 Briefly discuss the types of educational decisions every


classroom teacher must make.

a) Instructional decision: Decisions that may have


noticeable effects on achievement in classroom
behaviour.
b) Grading decision: Appropriateness of instructional
decisions on learner’s performance or knowledge, based
on behavioural change on ability to perform a task.
c) Diagnostic decision: Appropriate development and
interpretation on the student’s weaknesses and strengths
based on instructions given in performing a task.

4 Briefly discuss the type of data that is needed for diagnostic


decisions.

a) Objective test: To obtain the diverse and accurate picture


of the learner’s performance
b) Subjective Judgement: Based on identification and
evaluation of learner’s performance.

Norm and criterion referenced tests

want to use norm referenced test.

a) Grading: Grading is based on learners performance or


knowledge. The grading is done based on behavioural
change on ability to perform a task.
b) Diagnostic: Decisions made about the student’s
weaknesses and strengths based on instructions given
in performing a task.
c) Selection: Decision based on the potential of the
students to gain admission or rejected to a group or
institution or for competition purpose.
d) Placement: Decision that determine the student’s ability
in which he/she has been classified in the programme of
interest.
e) Counselling and Guidance: Decision based on providing
guidance and recommendations to students with regard
to the study field for the career path which the student
can follow.
f) Program or Curriculum: Decision made to suit the needs
of a particular course or grade level for the students to
participate in studies.
g) Administrative Policy: Decision made to for entry level
for the teachers to have data collected based on their
student’s information and achievements scores.
h) Promotion: Decision made on student’s scores to enable
the teacher to decide whether he/she met the
requirements to proceed to another grade or class.
i) Graduation: Decision made on the student that he/she
met the requirements of the course.
