Issue 3 (Season 3 Turn 10)

LYON: PAR EXCELLENCE

Steven Love’s side continue to dominate in Division 2
Editorial
WELCOME!
Welcome to the third edition of 7126 Monthly, the publication dedicated to everything 7126.

It is hard to believe that we are almost at the halfway point in the season, and this last month has seen a
number of teams break away from the rest of the pack in each division. Juventus remain the pick of the
bunch, still having yet to be defeated, although it is important to remember that there is still time for things
to change!

The 7126 Cup continues with great success, and expect a full analysis of the goings-on in the competition
next month, as it moves towards the latter stages. A big welcome to new members as well, there is no doubt
that 7126 is rapidly growing in popularity and I hope you all enjoy the game as much as the current
members do.

I hope you enjoy Issue 3 and all the best for your matches in the coming month.

Cheers,

Davor Vugrinec-Ajax
Position: Striker

Goals/games: 11/12

Nationality: Croatian

Date of birth:

Place of birth:
Varaždin,
SFR Yugoslavia

Davor Vugrinec was born in Varaždin, Croatia and started his professional career at local
club Varteks Varaždin in 1992, becoming a regular at the club in his second professional
season and playing for them until June 1997, when he transferred to big Turkish club Trab-
zonspor.

He made his debut for the Croatian national team on April 10, 1996 in their friendly match
against Hungary at home in Osijek, but subsequently had to wait for two and half years to
win his second international cap for the Croatian national A-team in their second Euro 2000
qualifier, away against Malta on October 10, 1998. He entered the match as an early substi-
tute after injury forced off Jurica Vucko in the 16th minute and went on to score two goals in
the second half, switching the Maltese team's surprising 1-0 lead on the halftime and lead-
ing Croatia to a 4-1 victory. At the time, he also made two appearances and scored one
goal for the Croatian national B-team, playing in their friendly matches against Romania on
March 17, 1998 and France on January 19, 1999.

In 2000, he became a regular in the Croatian national A-team and went on to appear in
seven out of possible eight qualifying matches for the 2002 World Cup. He also scored two
goals during the qualifying as he was on target once in Croatia's home matches against
Latvia and San Marino respectively. He was subsequently also part of the Croatian team at
the 2002 World Cup finals and appeared in two group matches before the team was elimi-
nated from the tournament in the first round after finishing third in their group. He started the
second match against Italy, but was substituted in the 57th minute. He also played in the
final group match against Ecuador, entering as a substitute in the 52nd minute. After the
2002 World Cup, he only appeared in one friendly match and two Euro 2004 qualifiers be-
fore being uncapped for more than three years, until January 2006.

After three years of absence from the Croatian national team, Vugrinec made his interna-
tional comeback by appearing in two matches at the 2006 Carlsberg Cup in Hong Kong and
was subsequently also seen by many as a candidate to join the Croatian team at the 2006
World Cup finals, especially after scoring a hat-trick in Rijeka's 4-0 victory away against
Hajduk Split in the Croatian First League, but was eventually omitted from the World Cup
squad.

Davor has started this season in sensational form, scoring 11 goals in his opening 12
games to help keep Ajax amongst the frontrunners in Division 3.

Hat-trick hero Mista
Division 2 leaders Lyon were made to work hard
for a point by a creative Atletico side, in particular
hat-trick hero Mista.

It was the home side that took the early lead, with
Nomvete delivering a fine ball into the Madrid box that
was emphatically headed past Jaaskelainen by Pawel
Brozek on 8 minutes. However, a piece of magic from
Mista soon brought the scores level on 13. Nani stole
the ball in the middle of the park and set Alves on a
run that led to a fine ball to Mista. The Spaniard still
had a lot of work to do though, and so a fantastic curl-
ing shot from the edge of the area brought the fans to
their feet.

Both sides created chances, but the scores remained

level until after half-time. A poor challenge by Priske
on Pirlo inside the box gave Mista the chance for his
second, and he duly scored (59), despite Reina’s ef-
forts. The visitors’ lead was short-lived however, and
sloppy defending from Mexes allowed Nilmar in be-
Lyon celebrate late Osorno equaliser hind Yobo and he smashed the ball past Jaaskelainen
(68).

Man of the match Mista thought he’d won the game for
Madrid on 78 when he sealed his hat-trick. A superb
ball from Rosicky that beat the Lyon offside trap ena-
bled Mista to pick his spot, but a stunning late volley
from Osorno (85), after Rosicky had sloppily given
away possession, ensured that the points were shared
in an exciting encounter.

7126 Monthly meets...
Joe Sheldon-Spurs’ passionate manager on promotion, AC Milan’s
wingers and his controversial transfer policy...

“I want Spurs to realise

their potential.”
7126 Monthly: How did it feel to take over at the club you support?
JS: I was very proud. I’m a passionate Spurs supporter and i want them to realise their potential.
You’ve made a good start to the season, do you believe you have a realistic chance of promotion?
I do. However i believe the Second Division to be very difficult with teams like Lyon and that other lot from North Lon-
don doing very well and the mighty Real Madrid waiting in the wings. My form this season has been very random, los-
ing 4 games in a row then unbeaten in 6, winning 5.
Bringing Jermaine Defoe back to White Hart Lane was obviously a big coup. What will he bring to the squad?
Hopefully more goals! Keano has had injury problems this season and Berbatov has been carrying the side on his
own, so hopefully Defoe can help him out a bit.
What areas of the squad are you looking to strengthen and do you have any transfer news to share with us?
Its a well known fact that im a massive fan of A.C Milans wingers Messi, Vicente and Ribery, but they are under con-
tract and i have tight purse strings here at White Hart Lane.
Critics have slated your transfer policy, saying that the departures of Joe Cole and Emmanuel Adebayor were
fuelled purely, as a Spurs fan, by your dislike of their former clubs, Chelsea and Arsenal. How do you re-
spond?

Finally, could you give me your predictions for this season please?

Division 2: Tottenham or Lyon
