Potential Barriers In any given project, there will always be the presence of certain barriers within the target

population and the service which would affect the implementation of the program. These barriers needs to be overcome with appropriate planning coupled with theory, evidence and local knowledge to facilitate success of the project proposal implementation. The target population were identified as the women, children and the workers of the Philex mines Corporation. One of the barriers we noted with regards to our program implementation would be the target populations beliefs and practices. These may include their erroneous beliefs (such as the belief that vaccines shortens life), preconceived ideas and lack of awareness regarding the environmental issues. These problems will definitely cause resistance on the part of the target population. The key to these problems would be first to assess their current knowledge and correct any ideas or knowledge that needs corrections. Then with strong leadership skills, we will educate them as part of our program implementation. This way, we will be able to facilitate effective implementation of our program. Another problem that we anticipate to encounter would be the lack of motivation with regards to the practice of the programs in their daily activities. This will also be due to their lack of awareness regarding the environmental issues but we already have some of the solution to the problem as stated above. For this specific problem, we plan to cooperate with the authorities in Philex Mines Corporation for them to support plans on giving incentives for those who will be able to beautify and maintain their surroundings using our planned programs. We also plan to include in our health education the adverse effects of poor environmental sanitation and the adverse effects of unhealthy lifestyle (such as smoking, betel nut chewing, and drinking) to their lives and health. This way, we will be able to facilitate better compliance among the target populations. Other problems identified were language barriers and we plan to address this problem through the use of their dialect during our communication with them. We will let those who are adept in speaking their vernacular language do the talking. The problem with matching with their free time will be solved by implementing the program before they go to work (for the male workers), coordinating with the barangay to arrange a meeting for all the women in the place, and coordinating with the school principal to arrange for a time to have an meeting with the school children. For the implementers, we identified geographical problem as our barrier. Philex Mines is situated on the southern tip of Baguio City and the travel time from the city to the place will take one and a half hour maximum. For that, we plan to set all our activities in two consecutive days, we will be asking for temporary residence to allow ample time for the implementation of program.
