NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UPDATE

by Security Chair Jeanne Bushong Thanks to everyone's vigilance Green Oaks has not seen a recurrence of the break-ins we had there for a while. Please continue to be aware of your surroundings and contact the police department if you have any concerns. They are happy to check things out and would much prefer responding to suspicious activity than to a crime already committed, call (407) 644 1313 and check out the Winter Park Police Department website www.wppd.org/community/news.htm.

Neighborhood Council Update

At the latest Neighborhood Council Meeting, Lee Mackin, City Forester and Chief Arborist spoke, providing the following information; If you see a serious problem with a tree on city right of way, call the Forestry Division at (407) 599-3325. The city does not have the funds to do a street-by-street pruning of trees in the right of way. The only trees they address are those that have been reported as having a problem. The homeowner is responsible for keeping the city trees in good shape.

DO YOU HAVE A DOG?

Keep Winter Park Beautiful, a Winter Park City board has provided our neighborhood with dog waste clean up bags in a convenient carrying case shaped like a bone. Come to our Halloween party on the 31st to pick one up!

ELECTRICAL UNDERGROUNDING - UPDATE

Terry Hotard, Assistant Electric Director of Winter Parks Electric Department, joined our annual meeting on June 9th to outline the process the city follows to expedite under grounding of the electric and BrightHouse utility lines. When a neighborhood expresses interest in the program, the City will survey neighbors by cluster providing a general plan and estimated cost to determine the level of interest. If 66% or more of the neighbors in a cluster are interested, the City will continue the process to expedite undergrounding. Our neighborhood was surveyed this past July and two of the five power distribution system clusters had enough interest to move ahead Legion/Green Oaks and Sunnyside/Diana/Juanita/Dixie. Neighbors in these areas should expect to receive additional information on the process from the City. We have four wonderful neighbors who have volunteered to be team leaders acting as a liaison or communications interface with the city. Team Leaders are; - Cathy Karunaratne for Legion (north)/Green Oaks - Jeanne Bushong for Summerland (south)/Cardinal/Ibis - Claudia Cook for Green Cove/Raintree - Michael Poole for Summerland (north)/Summer Way/Gaines Way We are in need of a team leader volunteer for Sunnyside/Diana/ Juanita/Dixie. If you are interested, please contact Dede Caron at dedezcaron@msn.com or (407) 645-3844 If you have any additional questions or concerns please contact your Street Team Leader or the City Electric Department
