PROPOSAL
ENABLE SCOTLAND
…LEADÌNG THE WAY ÌN LEARNÌNG DÌSABÌLÌTY
We are a vibrant, member-led charity that works to improve the lives of
children and adults with learning disabilities through support, legal advice,
campaigning and advocacy. The charity has been active since 1954 and works
to give disabled people the lives that they want. We:
· support over 500 adults to live in their homes and around 420 families
each year in Scotland
· helped 646 people with learning disabilities to get jobs
- answered over 3000 enquiries
· Led the infuential ‘Personalisation: A Brave New World’ conference,
curated by MSP Jackie Baillie
· Run social activities and advocacy groups such as Real Pals, Speak for
Yourself and Best Buddies
THE TITAN CRANE ABSEILS
… CAPTURÌNG CLYDEBANK’S ATTENTÌON
The focus of our fundraising for 2010 and 2011 will be the Titan Crane Abseil
– a 150ft free-fall abseil from an iconic structure which is both historic and a
symbol of regeneration. In 2009 we have:
· held 7 abseil events with hundreds of participants, raising over £40,000
· pioneered the exclusive Night Rave Abseil
· established a popular mini-website and social media groups
A WINNING PARTNERSHIP
…MADE ÌN SCOTLAND FROM GÌRDERS
We see A.G. Barr as a successful business with strong roots in Scottish
humour and history, with well-defned, established products such as Irn Bru
and Strathmore Twist that appeal to a range of demographics. Together we
can:
· Signifcantly improve the lives of the 120,000 people in Scotland who
have a learning disability
· Celebrate the iconic Titan Crane with a series of exhilarating events
· Create humorous campaigns based on a specifc Barrs product
A successful partnership between our organisations could focus on shared
goals of improved health, participation in communities, taking risks to really
enjoy life and celebrating Scottish culture.
Whichever brands you would wish to promote, ENABLE Scotland’s Titan
Crane Abseil has a wide appeal. We would welcome the chance to work in
partnership with one of these products specifcally in mind.
Several models are set out in this proposal for how ENABLE Scotland
and A.G. Barr could best work together in 2010. Suggested levels of
sponsorship/donation to the charity have been proposed, but
it is our hope that detailed discussion can fnd the most
appropriate arrangement for mutual beneft.

Clydebank
Re-built
Do you have what it takes to
abseil from one of Scotland’s
historic landmarks?
Standing proud at 150ft, the 150-ton
Titan Crane at Clydebank is the oldest of
its kind in the world. Learning disability
charity ENABLE Scotland is holding
abseil events from the steel giant on May
2 and 3.
24 year-old Louise Hill, who is from
Clydebank and has a learning disability
is all geared up to take part.
“ENABLE Scotland changed my
life. I was in a bad place before I got
involved with them. I’ve looked up at
the Titan Crane from the bus for years. I
can’t wait to do
the abseil. I’m
telling everyone
to get involved,
so more people
with learning
disabilities
can have the
chances I’ve
had. ”
Now, more
than ever, children and adults with
learning disabilities in Scotland need our
support.
Take on the Titan. Transform
lives.
Nerves
of Steel?
Our Night Abseil in October 2009 attracted even more attention, with places in
hot demand and coverage in the Helensburgh Advertiser, the Evening Times
and Clydebank Post. Eight events are planned annually for 2010 & 2011
between May and September.
WEBSITE & ONLINE
… A SÌGNÌFÌCANT DÌGÌTAL PRESENCE
www.titanabseil.org.uk was launched in July 2009, with fully integrated links
to digital and social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Bebo, Youtube, Just
Giving and Flickr. It has been a vital tool in communicating with around 2,000
followers/group members to sustain the excitement and atmosphere created
in the run-up to the day. We have run competitions, led forum discussion
and built up a large resource of user-contributed videos and photos from the
events.
PROMOTION
…A LÌTTLE HELP FROM OUR CELEBRÌTY FRÌENDS
ENABLE Scotland strives to be innovative yet consistent in our approach to
publicity. We have used the tagline ‘Nerves of Steel’ throughout our branding
which could ft well with Irn Bru’s past advertising. In July 2009 we gained
some TV coverage with David Hayman (star of Trial and Retribution) abseiling
the crane for ENABLE Scotland – this was featured on STV’s The Hour with
footage of the abseil. View this at: [link]
SUGGESTED MODELS FOR SPONSORSHIP
We are excited about the potential to work with the A.G. Barr marketing team
to look at fresh approaches to getting people interested in our abseil and hope
that you will fnd us open-minded and creative in our approach.
OPTION NO 1: BRONZE
A.G. Barr sponsor all of our promotional material for 2010 at a cost of £5,000,
covering a total of eight abseil events throughout 2010 and reaching in excess
of 20,000 people.
Includes:
· Radio Campaign
· Posters and Flyers
· Targeted online campaigns, with designs designed by collaboration
ENABLE Scotland would also offer A.G. Barr a total of 10 places on the abseil
event at no cost, which could be used for a once-in-a-lifetime team building
exercise, a reward (or punishment!) for staff, or used to raise further
funds and support for our charity.
OPTION NO 2: SILVER
ENABLE Scotland and A.G. Barr collaborate for a Night Abseil in
2010 and cover costs of £10,000. The night-time abseil ups the fear
factor and increases media interest.
Includes:
· Titan Crane lit up in brand-consistent colours (ie. Orange and Blue for Irn
Bru).
· Radio and media campaign with original designs
· Filming at the event for maximum media exposure
A.G. Barr would also gain 10 complimentary places on the abseil itself, along
with being instrumental in raising a projected £30,000 for ENABLE Scotland
with just one event alone.
OPTION NO 3: GOLD
ENABLE Scotland and A.G. Barr kick off the partnership with a Titan Team
Building Day for 15 people, starting with a boat ride from the Glasgow Science
Centre up to the Clydebank pontoon at the base of the crane. After this, a
tapas-style buffet lunch and boardroom are provided for your team, fnishing
with the ultimate challenge – the 150ft Titan freefall abseil.
For a total of £20,000 donated by A.G. Barr, ENABLE Scotland would provide
the following:
· Titan Team Building Day
· 3 places on each abseil event – 21 places (usual cost £3,150)
· Create a promotional video – access to the crane arranged
· A table at our Annual Ball (usual cost £750)
· Full branding throughout all abseil promotional material in 2010
· Branding throughout www.titanabseil.org.uk
We look forward to discussing all of these options with you to fnd the best
ways of both ENABLE Scotland and A.G. Barr benefting from this partnership.
Thank you for considering this proposal and for your potential involvement
with our charity.
