FAQ by Youth

Q. As Christians, is it wrong to use ‘Sheng Language’ to address God? Thank you for asking this question. I am sure you know that God is ‘all knowing’ and therefore, He knows and understands all the languages. As such, there is no official language to address God. But then, we need to say something about ‘Sheng’ as a language. In one of the Catholic Parishes around Nairobi, the Parish Priest complained of a number youth who used ‘sheng’ language during communion. “The body of Christ…” the youth answered, ‘POA!’ instead of Amen or Yes. Well, would you consider such use of sheng right? Certainly not! In fact, the Parish Priest was right in his complain. The issue here is the respect for God and all that is sacred. God’s commandments teach us ‘not to use His Name in Vain.’ As we all know, sheng language is used when we speak casually with people we are familiar with - age mates, friends or people with whom we are ordinarily used to. I do not think it is right to use such language with God. Lastly, we need to note two points as young people. First, sheng language must not be used to substitute some ‘bad words’ that are not known to all people. Second, when we address God, we need to do so with high sense of respect for Him as the author of our life. God Bless You!

An Act of Kindness
President Abraham Lincoln often visited hospitals to talk with wounded soldiers during the Civil War. Once, doctors pointed out a young soldier who was near death and Lincoln went over to his bedside. “Is there anything I can do for you ?” asked the President. The soldier obviously didn’t recognize Lincoln, and with some effort he was able to whisper, “Would you please write a letter to my mother?” A pen and paper were provided and the President carefully began writing down what the young man was able to say: “My dearest mother, I was badly hurt while doing my duty. I’m afraid I’m not going to recover. Don’t grieve too much for me, please. Kiss Mary and John for me. May God bless you and father.” The soldier was too weak to continue, so Lincoln signed the letter for him and added, “Written for your son by Abraham Lincoln.” The young man asked to see the note and was astonished when he discovered who had written it. “Are you really the President?” he asked. “Yes, I am,” Lincoln replied quietly. Then he asked if there was anything else he could do. “Would you please hold my hand?” the soldier asked. “It will help to see me through to the end.” In the hushed room, the tall gaunt President took the boy’s hand in his and spoke warm words of encouragement until death came.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs and do not forget to thank Him for His answers. If you do this you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. Young and the Bible Barua Kwa Yesu
Mpendwa Yesu, Unaendeleaje Yesu? Uko Mbinguni wanasema je? Je Baba na Mama ni wazima? Wasalimie wote. Mimi nimechanganyikiwa! But I Love you Jesus. , Dear Young Person, How often do you write a letter to Jesus to share with Him about your life?
