NBC Affiliates to Air Documentary on the Effects of Malaria

Dear NBC Affiliates and Program Directors, Every 45 seconds, a child dies from malaria. The West Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church has been informed that NBC affiliates nationwide will be airing a program beginning May 1 titled “A Killer in the Dark: An Extraordinary Effort to Combat Malaria.” The program is being presented by the National Council of Churches USA under the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission (IBC) and was produced by United Methodist Communications, headquartered in Nashville, TN. The United Methodist Church is a founding partner for Nothing But Nets and has since begun initiatives including Imagine No Malaria, a supporting campaign aimed at raising $75 million to help eliminate malaria deaths in Africa by 2015. This initiative is just one of the ways that the denomination in working with partners to mobilize communities towards the goal of one day eradicating this debilitating disease. A commitment to this cause reaffirms the church’s long history of concern for social justice and focus on ministry with the poor. A Killer in the Dark is hosted by actress Pauley Perrette. Perrette, known for her role in the popular television CBS television show NCIS, is a supporter of the work being done through the Imagine No Malaria campaign. Along with her participation in this nationwide television event, Perrette has starred in several public service announcements which can be viewed on the Imagine No Malaria YouTube channel. In order to raise awareness of this devastating global disease, it is important that we gain local support surrounding this issue as a way to increase efforts aimed at ending deaths caused by malaria.
