The Pictorialist

November 2011 Newsletter of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee Established 1904 Affiliated with the Photographic Society of America Wisconsin Area Camera Clubs Organization And the Wisconsin Print Circuit Richard Yehl, President; Sandra Weber, Vice President Dixie Lowin, Treasurer; Bert Hartinger, Secretary-Editor Meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of each month from September thru May at 7pm, in the Luther Manor Conference Room, 4545 N. 92nd St., Wauwatosa, Wisconsin Highlights from October Meetings The October 6 program was devoted to the viewing of photographs on transportation. About every mode one can think of was shown, from feet, to Bob Lauers play car circa 1929, to horseback, to antique autos, to balloons, and on to airplanes. At the October 20 meeting, photos from the outing to the H. H. Bennett Studio in Wisconsin Dells were shown, along with pictures from Pewits Nest and the Merrimac Ferry. Look for some of these photos to be shown soon in the photo gallery at We all know Jerry Harders is an excellent photographer, but some of us did not know that he also is an excellent painter. We know now. He brought in several of his paintings for us to enjoy. John and Sandra Weber showed photographs taken on their recent trip around Lake Superior and on to Minneapolis. November Programs On November 3, we will have the photographs submitted for the PSA Region 21 Showcase to view and judge. After our judging is completed, we will discuss and critic them. Our November 17 program will be devoted to a discussion of flash photography. If we come out after the meeting with a better understanding of how, why, and when to use flash, and when to use available light - who can tell - our pictures might be better than they are now. Relatively few of the photos shown at our meetings were taken using flash, with the exception of the occasional ones where fill flash was used. While built in flash in most cameras is handy, better results can be obtained with techniques such as bounce flash, off camera flash using wireless or cables, and even filters with flash. WACCO The fall 2011 WACCO competition is Saturday, Nov. 5. At the last such competition our club was well represented. It is hoped we will be this time too. In the future there will be only one WACCO competition annually, instead of two. Luther Manor Display We need volunteers to display their photos in the LM Welcome Center. To fill in a gap, Richard Yehl and Bert Hartinger have a joint showing of photos and Pauline Beck and Richard added some new mystery photos to the second display panel.

Membership A new membership list of paid up members will be prepared soon. To make sure you appear on the list, get your dues to Dixie Lowin, if you havent already done so. Dues are (only) $20.00 for an individual and $30.00 for a couple.
