Mission Statement: The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) provides a means for youth to unite and serve the community, promote healthy decisions and use leadership skills to provide resources, activities and support for youth who attend the Teen Impact Center. What is the Teen Advisory Board (TAB)? The TAB is a board whose members are appointed by the Teen Impact Center (TIC) and Family Resource and Referral Center (FRRC) to serve as the leadership team for the youth at the Teen Center. The board advises the TIC and FRRC on youth issues and serves as a means for youth in Stockton to become active in the community and to support activities and programs in the Teen Center. TAB will be actively involved in numerous community service projects, community events and youth activities in the TIC. Who is eligible to serve on the TAB? Any youth currently in the 7th-12th grades, who is attending a private school, a home school, a charter school or a public school and is committed to helping teens in Stockton. Must also commit to a full one-year term that coincides with the school year (Sept ‘11 – August ‘12), apply for a one-year membership for the TIC and submit a completed TAB application form. TIC sponsorships are available for TAB to apply to. If appointed, how long will I serve on the TAB? Each appointee serves for 1 year on the board, with the possibility of reapplication to serve on the board up to 4 terms. This application is for September 2011- June 2012 term. Where do I turn in my completed application? Below is a list of requirements and proposed events to be held throughout the year: Requirements • Attend all Regular TAB Meetings at the Teen Center • Must have transportation to meetings and events • TAB members may have up to 2 excused meeting absences per semester. More than 4 meetings/event absences will result in suspension from the TAB. • Serve as a Co-Chair for a minimum of one special events/programs. • Participate in a minimum of 70% of special events and/or subcommittees. TAB Special Events Here is a list of some of the events the TAB will host or volunteer at for the next year: • Monthly Cultural Events: Oct (Hispanic & Filipino Heritage Month Ceremony), Nov (Native American Heritage Month), December (International Holiday Festivities) and etc. • TIC Dances (Concession Stand) • The Project Prom Dress Drive The Stockton Teen Advisory Board meetings and special event schedule requires members to be available to volunteer after school and on weekends. If a teen cannot commit to multiple special events throughout the year along with the regularly scheduled business meetings, it is probably not the best fit for them to apply for the Teen Advisory Board.
