THE KITE RUNNER

The Kite Runner is a novel by the author Khaled Hosseini.Published in 2003 by Riverhead Books, it is Hosseini's first novel, and was adapted into a film of the same name in 2007. Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965. His father was a diplomat with the Afghan Foreign Ministry and his mother taught Farsi and History at a large high school in Kabul. The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a young boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who befriended Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the rise of the Taliban regime. This is a passage from the first chapter of the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.Thats a narrative passage and Amir is the narrator of the novel said to be born in 1963, in Kabul, who begins as a well-to-do Pashtun boy in monarchical Afghanistan and later migrates to America following the Soviet invasion. Amir is Hassan's halfbrother; however, Amir does not learn of their relationship until much later in his life. Hassan never learns of the relationship. This fragment contains the description of Amir about the events that took place in the past, how he became what he is today at twelve years old,the evolution of his life since present. The text includes three paragraphs corresponding to the different stages of the narrator arguments. In the starting point we shall examine the structure of this passage and observe the main ideas and how the theme is developed. The first paragraph is about Amirs past,he describes simple things that remembers about his life a long time ago in the winter of 1975 a life that he wanted to bury.We can see here the fundamental theme of life. This part can be considered like the introduction of this chapter, following the others narrations. The second paragraph contains also a narration,Amir talks about his friend Rahim Khan,Babas business partner and best friend in Afghanistan who called from Pakistan and asked him to come see him there. When they talked by phone he discovered that wasnt only his friend,he remembered all the past, and felt so near their sins. Here we can see the theme of fear about the past, against his sins that chassed him everywhere. The last paragraph is organized like a conclusion,Amir sat near a willow tree and thought about Hassan, a childhood friend, although Amir never explicitly admitted to this, thought about Baba-his father. He also thought about the life he had until the winter of 1975 and how transformed him in what he is today.Hassan is a successful "kite runner" for Amir, knowing where the kite will land without even watching it. One triumphant day, Amir wins the local tournament, and finally Baba's praise. Hassan goes to run the last cut kite, a great trophy, for Amir saying "For you, a thousand times over." Unfortunately, Hassan runs into Assef and his two friends. Hassan refuses to give up Amir's kite, so Assef exacts his revenge by raping Hassan. Hassan did not give up the kite because he wanted Amir's respect. Wondering why Hassan is taking so long, Amir searches for Hassan and hides when he hears Assef's voice. He witnesses the rape but is

too scared to intervene, and returns home in shame, guilty for not being able to help his best friend in a grave situation. He feels that his cowardice in Hassans's rape would destroy any hopes for Baba's affections, so he let it be. Afterwards, for some time Hassan and Amir keep a distance from each other. Amir reacts indifferently because he feels ashamed, and is frustrated by Hassan's saint-like behavior. Already jealous of Baba's love for Hassan, he worries if Baba knew how bravely Hassan defended Amir's kite, and how cowardly Amir acted, that Baba's love for Hassan would grow even more. As a conclusion I can say that the writer draws on his own experience. He sticks to reality, the events are happening in his real life,he relates his experience about life. I cant say if I agree this narration because is the authors point of wiew,a description of feelings and everyone of us has different opinions concerning life, but there is nothing I cannot agree with the writer. As a purely personal point of wiew.I agree with his fear against past, against unatoned sins that follow him all over the world. In my opinion is a very good structured chapter an interesting one with coherent and comprehensible ideas and hypothesis, very easy to understand by everyone, and the entire book is an extraordinary novel Khaleds Hosseinis first book became a bestseller published in 48 countries. The Kite Runner received the South African Boeke Prize in 2004. It was the first best seller for 2005 in the United States, according to Nielsen BookScan. It was also voted the Reading Group Book of the Year for 2006 and 2007 and headed a list of 60 titles submitted by entrants to the Penguin/Orange.The Kite Runner was given its southwest premiere on stage at the Arizona Theatre Company in September-October of 2009. David Ira Goldstein is again the director. The cast remains the same except for two new actors. Korken Alexander replaces Adam Yazbeck as Assef and Remi Sandri replaces Demosthenes Chrysan as General Taheri. The Kite Runner is a story with all the grand "themes of literature and life". It is a "vivid and engaging story that reminds us how long Khaled Hosseini's people have been struggling to triumph over the forces of violence". It is about "friendship and betrayal" and the arbitrary "price of loyalty". Themes of "love, honor, guilt, fear and redemption" are all included in this "extraordinary novel".
