As President of Council, worked actively with the elected Village Charter Commission to implement the Charter Form of Government in the Village. As Mayor, spearheaded the building of the new Village Hall, completed in 1998, and arranged for private financing of the project. Under my administration, there has developed a strong committee structure of Council, involving not only the Council, but also a number of involved residents. I have supervised the strong,
dedicated Village administrative staff headed by Chief Jerry Smith and collaborated with neighboring communities on several issues including the joint venture with the City of Kirtland’s Fire and Rescue Department. My wife, Susan and I have devoted a great deal of time to charitable and educational activities. Susan is a Trustee of National Public Radio, WCPN-Ideastream and Empire State College. I was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree by Lake Erie College for serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for eight years. I am the Past President of the University School Board of Trustees, where I was the recipient of the 1999 Alumni Award, and I served as a Director of Vocational Guidance Services and the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges.
