THE GOOFY GAZETTE

OCTOBER 24, 2011

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 24 - 28:
We read Bubble Bear and added the following to our Bb Ziploc baggie: golf ball, beetle, banana, pictures ofa baby, ballerina, blanket, books, boy bracelet, boots, beans, bride, bird, blocks, and a bagel. We added the following B words to our word wall: brown, blue, black, but and be. We colored our letter B black, blue, brown or all three and filled it with lots of buttons and bandages! We learned about the sound letter B makes by popping balloons and distinguishing whether the picturing inside the balloon began with B or not. We read The Bubble Factory by Tomie dePaola and each received our own bottle of bubbles to blow during the story! We blew bubbles on bats. We made bubbles in a cup! We pulled out our life-size graph and graphed our boots according to color. We then grouped them by type and size. We wore as much blue, brown, or black as we could on Wednesday! We practiced counting with bubble gum and then decided we couldnt let the bubble gum go to waste so we better have a bubble gum blowing contest! We made bat rulers and measured objects in the room. We practiced writing our name, the letter Bb and circled all letter Bbs in our Bb book. We played several bean bag activities to work on our coordination skills, body identification, left/right discrimination, balance and to just have some plain old fun! We read The Button Box by Margarette S. Reid and explored Ms. Kims button box, sorting buttons and looking at each of their characteristics as the boy did with his grandmas button box in the story. Perhaps you could make a button box at home! We learned what it means to be nocturnal by reading LOTS of books about nocturnal animals. We made a spooky owl sensory bag and placed it on our light table for some added sensory fun! Inside the sensory bag was clear hair gel, orange paint, googly eyes and owls. We moved the eyes around to find the owls! We had fun with our day/night animal sort. We learned about babies, tasted baby food (priceless pics will be posted of some friends faces when they tasted the baby food!) and shared baby pictures of ourselves!

We played Go Fish with all the letters weve learned thus far this year. Great game to play at home. We watered our pumpkin seed every day this week and noticed changes with our pumpkin (it started to disintegrate and grow fuzzy stuff) but no change with the seeds! Black spots started to appear inside our Pumpkin Jack this weekgross! We learned two new Sing & Spell sight word songs this week, on and play (words below). In sign language, we learned to sign numbers one through ten. In Spanish, we continue to review our days of the week and are learning how to count to ten and our colors. We had lots of fun at our Halloween party on Friday. We did the Monster Mash (of course, no Halloween party is complete without the Monster Mash!), played eyeball relay, mummy wrap, place the smile on the pumpkin, and pumpkin toss! We enjoyed a snack and our pumpkin shakes from our Storybook Caf. Thank you to everyone who sent in treats to share. It was very much appreciated. The children looked adorable in their costumes! During Storybook Caf, we read The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Steven Kroll and made Pumpkin Shakes!

If you wish to give more than 2-3 items that would be wonderful, she will take them and be blessed by them I know. PLEASE NOTEITEMS MUST BE NEW. NO USED OR DAMAGED ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
