 National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month

 July 4th, 2011, Happy 4th of July!

 July 12th – 16th, 2011, Prevention of Drug Abuse Training offered by the Indiana Association of Prevention Professionals, Indianapolis, IN: This training meets one of the requirements for those seeking certification as a Certified Prevention Professional or one of the other credentials offered by IAPP. Ethics in Prevention and Cultural Competency are included in the course. Classes will be taught by staff from Central CAPT. Visit the IAPP home page at for additional information or to register.  July 13th, 2011, Using Risk and Protective Factors in Prevention Planning: The Basics: SAMHSA is pleased to announce their next webinar/audio call from 1PM to 2:30PM. The event will provide an overview of risk and protective factors, including their relevance to SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework and the work of the State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroups (SEOWs), indicators and data sources, and how grantees and sub-recipients can best use these resources. Directions for Accessing the Session: (1) Log on to; (2) Enter your name, email address, and other requested questions; (3) Click, "Join Session" (The session is titled “Using Risk and Protective Factors in Prevention Planning: The Basics”), then “Manual Join;” (4) Once you reach the main page, follow the instructions for dialing in, in order to participate during the call. Remember to use the participant passcode (479886); (5) After dialing in, click on the content tab, which is located just below the taskbar, towards the top of the screen.  July 15th, 2011, Indiana Leadership Association’s Summer Leadership Conference, Indianapolis, IN: The conference will prepare and inspire those with an interest in Indiana community development, including program directors from around the state. It runs from 8AM to 5:30PM and is located at the Kiwanis International Building. For additional information or to register for the event go to  July 22nd, 2011, Prime for Life Training, Batesville, IN: ASAP Center and Ripley County LCC is hosting this day long training to educate community members about brief interventions when working with you. This training is being held for FREE, however there will be a $20 no show fee charged a no show fee. Registration will be opening soon.  July 24th-28th, 2011, CADCA’s Mid-Year Training Institute, Anaheim, CA: CADCA + Coalitions= [Formula for Community Change] is the focus of this year’s mid-year conference. CADCA’s Mid-Year is not the typical conference. Participants take part in ½ day, 1-day and 2-day courses on everything from how to run a community anti-drug coalition to how to implement environmental strategies. Decatur County CAC and the ASAP Center are sponsoring this training where participants will leave with knowledge of how the Asset Framework can improve their program and impact the youth they serve.
