MGMT 1001 Midterm Study Guide Note : This document is intended to be a guide.

It does not constitute a contract about what is and is not going to be on the exam. This guide focuses mainly on the material and content of readings and lectures that are central and vital to the class objectives for the midterm exam. While it is important to know the key terms listed below, the questions on the exam will also require that students be able to apply and integrate their knowledge to an actual organizational context. For example, students may be asked about the application of topics to a video clip viewed in class or an organization that was discussed in class to exemplify a key concept. The format of the test will be multiple choice. Teamwork What are the key characteristics of teams? What are the different types of teams? By authority structure? Type of Work? Location/characteristics of members? What are team goals and why are they important? What are the characteristics of effective team goals? Know the different forms of task interdependence. How does interdependence affect team performance? What is the difference between functional roles and team roles? What are the four stages of team development? What evidence is there for the sequential development of teams through these stages? What is team identity and how does it affect team performance? What is the role of identity formation in teams? What are the different types of team conflict and what effect do they have on team performance? Describe the five different conflict styles and how they might affect performance. Identify several different strategies for conflict resolution in teams. What is team cohesiveness and how does it relate to team performance? What are team norms? How are they formed? How do they affect team performance? Know the different components related to team effectiveness. What are the factors that facilitate team performance? What are factors that inhibit team performance? Know the different dimensions of trust and how they related to each other.
