Review Paper: Autonomous Dynamic Frequency Selection for WLANs Operating in the TV White Space The main focus

of this research paper was proposing new DFS which was developed for avoiding adjacent AP´s selecting the same channel, reduce the channel switch rate and adaptive to diverse environment. The information of previous channel characteristics, pulling out information regarding channel vacancy from TVWS database and channel occupation from adjacent WLANs were considered for implementing new DFS. For identifying a channel whether System feature for proposed DFS: How to detect interference? Assume, I0= Thresh hold value I= Interference level After spectrum sensing for detection of TV signal and scanning for detecting interference from other AP´s: If, I < I0 , then the channel is selectable If, I > I0, then the channel is not selectable Consideration:
(i) TVWS channels have different vacant duration and vacant times. Example: Can be vacant

during day time if there is only night programme is available
(ii) Different traffic load and different periods are considered during the day. Example:

Weekdays : Traffic Load Time

Low (Home) Day High (Home) Night Office: Traffic load High morning to evening (iii) The area where the APs are compactly distributed and channel resources are not able to fulfill the demands of all the APs

Aims of Proposed DFS: During the high traffic load the propose DFS will make enable the APs to find out the channel quickly where the interference and switching rate of the channel will be less.

 The APs scan the channel. Priority of the channel: Priority of the channel is calculated depending on the result of the following term: • Accumulative weighted effective utilization time (T0).Selection Procedure of a Channel:  In this paper. .  Periodically measures the interference level (I) If the above requirement is fulfilled then operation can be continued in the channel otherwise AP´s need to search for new vacant channel. during the operation in TVWS for comply with the rules and regulation the following requirement needs to be fulfilled:  Periodically checks vacancy status during the operation.]  The AP contends for accessing the channel  Operating begins. Moreover. metric call Selection Tendency (SLT) is considered where it shows the tendency of an access point for the selection of the channel.  The AP´s sets same SLT and random selection  Optimal decision is based: (i) Distribution of channel vacancy (ii) AP´s traffic load  Evaluations is done by AP depending on operation in different channel and start to select the channel using highest SLT Channel Access Process:  AP check the TVWS data base for available channel  Select the channel that have highest SLT or select one of them if SLT is same. [If AP fails then goes for next highest SLT and so on.

• • • Channel switch rate due to the return of TV operators (δ) Channel switch due to improper selection (η) Weighted probability of not being a selectable channel (β) Conclusion: After observing the result in comparison with random selection the following improvement is observed by proposed DFS: • Reduction of average channel scanning time • Reduction of channel switch rate during high traffic load period • Reduce improper selection probability .
